Job Description

Our client is a family-owned, US based premier manufacturer of building products headquartered in the greater Birmingham, AL area. We are actively seeking a strategic, forward-thinking, and hands-on Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") to lead and grow the company. The CEO will be appointed under the authority of the company’s by-laws and the policies of the board. The CEO of has two major roles:

  • To provide leadership in these and other areas: the creation of vision, strategic, tactical, and financial plans; developing goals and measuring performance to the approved goals; organizational development; liaison to the public, investment community, government, affiliated organizations, and other stakeholders; and the development of the company’s management and staff.
  • To direct and execute all activities of the corporation either directly or through delegated authority; and


Responsibilities

  • The CEO shall have full responsibility for the operations of the company in accordance with the strategic plan and the current year’s operating and capital expenditure budgets as approved by the board.
  • The CEO operates under the authority granted by the board. The approval of the board shall be required for all significant decisions outside of the ordinary course of the corporation's business, including major financings, acquisitions, dispositions, budgets, and capital expenditures as set out in the corporation's policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement operational policies to guide the corporation within the limits prescribed by applicable laws and regulations and the framework of the strategy approved by the board.
  • Keep the board aware of the company’s performance and any events affecting its business, including opportunities in the marketplace and adverse or positive developments.
  • Develop, at least annually, for consideration by the board, a strategic plan outlining the direction and policies which seek to ensure the corporation's profitable growth, goals, and objectives.
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain appropriate management systems to provide effective internal control of operations.
  • Meets regularly and as required with the chair and other board members to ensure they are provided with all information in a timely manner and have access to management to permit the board to fulfill their additional obligations.
  • The CEO possesses the highest personal and professional integrity. The CEO shall act honestly and in good faith with a view to the best interests of the company and will exercise the care, diligence, and skill that a reasonably prudent person would exercise.


Qualifications

  • Must have a proven prior track record of achievement in profitable revenue growth.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate complex business issues in a clear/concise manner and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Relocation assistance provided.
  • 5+ years of experience in a full P&L leadership position (e.g., CEO, President, Division President - $150M-$200M+ minimum P&L responsibility) in a manufacturing business ideally in building products, building materials, or wood products (furniture or home furnishings) sold through the professional builder channel, to include dealers & contractors.
  • Experience in a family-owned and operated environment is a plus.
  • Bachelors in business, engineering, or marketing (Extensive “C” level experience will be considered)
