Chemical Lab Technician
Tuscon, Arizona

Chemistry lab technicians assist chemists in their lab work. As time progresses, lab technicians are completing a greater number of tasks that previously would have been performed by highly trained chemists. Technicians are responsible for monitoring chemical processes and testing products as part of quality assurance. Under the supervision of chemists and other team members, they perform repetitive lab activities, such as setting up lab equipment and preparing chemical solutions. They also conduct tests, interpret and analyze data, compile results, prepare reports, and present their conclusions.

Requirements:
  • Demonstrate the ability to build and sustain strong relationships within the Technical Services group
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills -

    • Effective verbal and written communication
  • B.S. degree in chemistry/metallurgy/mining engineering or other related discipline
  • Proficient computer skills - specifically Microsoft Excel

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques
  • Effective verbal and written communication

Desired:
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Practical knowledge of Atomic Absorption

Principal Responsibilities -
  • Laboratory Responsibilities
    • Learn all standard hydrometallurgical and solid liquid separation techniques and procedures
    • Maintain/repair lab equipment
    • Ensure that ISO requirements are met for each instrument and procedure
    • Lab Administration
      • Track hydrometallurgical analysis
      • Track solid liquid separation analysis
      • Perform testing for customer related projects
      • Prepare samples per customer requests
      • Prepare laboratory QC solutions, diluents, and standards. Ensure that samples meet specifications.
      • Maintain equipment
      • Log and report results of all testing
    • Profile Analysis
      • Perform analysis on plant profile samples
      • Log and report results to Technical Sales group
  • Track hydrometallurgical analysis
  • Understands that safety and Environmental responsibility is a major part of our principles. Must report all unsafe conditions and accidents immediately to appropriate manager. Assure standards of safety, environmental, team and individual performance are met in a high-performance team based organization.

Nature and Scope -
  • Work environment (extent of interaction with Supervisor(s) for approval, concurrence, resolution, etc.): Ensure that customer technical service needs are met.

  • Business environment (economic or technological conditions dealt with on a regular basis): Continuing education regarding hydrometallurgical processes.
  • Internal and external relationships (nature and frequency): Interact on a frequent basis with sales representatives and technical service laboratory personnel. Interact with existing customers as well as potential new customers (on-site, at industry conferences, and at technical meetings).
