This individual has a responsibility of contributing to the quality of patient care through strict quality assurance and efficient practices of decontaminating surgical equipment and instruments through proper cleaning, inspecting, maintaining, assembling, packaging and monitoring sterilization of instruments and supplies. **JOB QUALIFICATIONS** **EDUCATION** _For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation._ **Minimum Required:**
High school diploma or equivalent. **Preferred/Optional:**
Currently enrolled in/attending/completed an accredited IAHCSMM or CBSPD sterile processing technician program. **EXPERIENCE** **Minimum Required:**
None **Preferred/Optional:**
Central sterile experience. **CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES** _The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position.
Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position._ **Minimum Required:**
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire and one of the following within two years of hire: + Central Service Technician certification awarded by International Association of Healthcare Center Services Material Management Sterile Processing and Distribution (IAHCSMM SPD)
  • _or_** + Military equivalency **Preferred/Optional:**
  • _or_** + Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)

  • _or_** + Military equivalency Central Service Technician I employees employed by MCHS in a Central Service Technician role as of March 10, 2019 are not required to obtain a central service technician certification, but must acquire annual continuing education credits equal to the requirements to maintain such a certification.
Individuals hired into a Central Service Technician I role after March 10, 2019, must meet the above certification requirements.
