Summary:

We are looking for a Category Manager to join our team. The Category Manager plays a strategic role in building strong partnership across retailers by providing strategic category guidance to deliver market leading growth for the Sun Bum portfolio. This individual will conduct high quality category data analyses and synthesize multiple data sources to generate customer insights, competitive insights, shelving and assortment recommendations, while leveraging effective communication & influencing skills to orchestrate action.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support development of joint business plans with customers by defining opportunities, and preparing and presenting category materials
• Leverage and interpret customer, category and shopper data to develop compelling and executable insights to drive distribution and planogram or display assortment recommendations
• Act as category expert in product development and stage gate processes
• Collaborate with sales, marketing and other relevant cross functional teams to develop line review, sales release and sales share out materials
• Develop category strategies by leveraging the tools, insights, and analytics from various data sources (IRI, Nielsen, shopper card data etc)
• Collaborate with customer teams on the execution of selling strategies by providing category or customer-specific insights and recommendations

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

• Thorough understanding of the US retail channel and customers, trade promotions and pricing strategies
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word etc)
• Strength in leveraging facts and insights to build category shelving guidance with actionable recommendations
• 5+ years of category management experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
• Strong project management abilities. Capable of prioritizing and handling multiple projects simultaneously under tight time constraints
• Degree in business administration or related field
• Experience interacting with buyers and internal cross functional partners
• In-depth understanding of category management analytics, tools & process
• Extensive syndicated data knowledge (Panel data, IRI, Nielsen, Numerator, and retailer-specific point of sale etc)
• Strong Communication and Presentation Skills

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

• Experience with customer interaction: JBP management, top-to-top meetings
• Advisor/Category Captain experience

• HQ office location (Encinitas CA)
• Full Time

$78,000-$103,000 is the salary range for this position. It represents a portion of the overall package, and there is flexibility based on the candidate's qualifications.
