Job Description
The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
The Division of Accounts Receivable and Billing (DARB) is responsible for the processing of payments for the Medicaid Pay-In program as well as processing and issuing refunds to customers that have not used their Pay-In and have a balance on their account, as well as reimbursement requests from other program areas such as IREA, Claims and Collections, Bureau of Fraud Investigation and the Division of Liens and Recovery.
DARB would like to fill one (1) Clerical Associate III position to function as a Cashier Processor who will:
  • Identify money received from various payers. Provide coverage for the Cashier window where customers come in person to make payments for their Medicaid Surplus.

  • Process credit card transactions using a POS terminal.

  • Prepare input documents and batches for data entry into the computerized system, and deposit checks and money orders to the bank through remote deposit.

  • Review Medicaid Surplus payments received from third parties for an attestation of use of recipient funds and sends appropriate correspondence to customers who have not submitted the appropriate forms.

  • Research customer payments by using the DARB system, WMS and the HRA One Viewer.

  • Perform scanning, indexing and quality assurance of documents to the HRA One Viewer.

Minimum Qual Requirements

Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
