Job Description
Position Summary


The Child Protection Team (CPT) Case Coordinator position involves providing expert consultation and support to community professionals engaged in the investigation and assessment of child abuse allegations. The primary responsibilities include taking referrals from the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and law enforcement agencies, coordinating various services such as reviewing and completing medical records, preparing comprehensive reports, and participating in multidisciplinary staffing meetings from various disciplines, such as law enforcement, social work, mental health, and medical professionals, to discuss and develop comprehensive plans for child protection and intervention.

Responsibilities


Essential Functions


  • Conduct or participate in child and family interviews to assess factors contributing to suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and participate in examinations of children reported for abuse or neglect with CPT medical providers.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary crisis planning sessions.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call duties as part of 24/7 emergency response team coverage. Entails carrying a pager or cell phone and providing expert consultation on child abuse cases and responding in-person to Children’s Advocacy Centers and hospitals in Orange and Osceola counties
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Serve as expert witnesses in criminal and dependency court proceedings as needed.
  • Performs comprehensive, written psychosocial assessments of at-risk families.
  • Provides expert consultation to community professionals involved in the investigation and assessment of child abuse allegations.
  • Maintain timely documentation in hospital charts for children admitted to Orlando Health hospitals when child abuse or neglect is suspected.
  • Provide highly specialized services including professional caliber photographic documentation of child abuse injuries and videotaped forensic interviews with suspected victims of maltreatment.
  • Provide depositions regarding case activities and findings for possible criminal prosecution of child abuse perpetrators.
  • Responsible for obtaining crucial forensic evidence necessary for criminal and dependency court cases of child abuse and neglect, including child homicides.
  • Creates written reports with recommendations for services and interventions to reduce the risk of future harm to children.
  • Serve as a resource to the community for case consultation on suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
  • Decision making in this position entails a high degree of responsibility and expertise that significantly impacts the future risk to children of serious injury, including possible death.


Other Related Functions


  • Maintain the team’s cooperative working relationship with area hospitals, community agencies, and individuals.
  • Case Coordinators must either type or dictate their reports, and input data into the data reporting system for case tracking and statistical compilation.
  • CPT Case Coordinators must accurately and completely document all case activity so that patient safety and the integrity of CPT’s work is ensured.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Education


Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major emphasis on social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, child development, or nursing.


Licensure/Certification


None.


Experience


Three (3) years’ experience working with children and families is required, one (1) year of which must be working with abused and neglected children. An MSW may substitute for one (1) year of experience. Must have a broad knowledge of child physical abuse, family dynamics, domestic violence, substance abuse, child sexual abuse, sexual predator typologies, Chapter 39 of Florida Statutes, Dependency Court, mental illness, child neglect, and medical neglect. Must be knowledgeable of standard computer office software, including word processing software.
