Job Description
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office,(HCSO) founded in 1803 is the 3rd largest sheriff's office in Ohio. HCSO has approximately 900 employees dedicated to ensuring the safety of nearly 1 million residents who call Hamilton County Home.


At the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, our goal is to recruit a high-quality, diverse group of candidates that reflect the community we serve.


We are looking to hire a skilled carpenter with knowledge of various carpentry techniques. This person be responsible for structural design, planning, layout and installation. They will make building repairs on doors, windows, drywall, cabinets, and other fixtures as required. They will interpret blueprints to determine materials, equipment and methods needed for projects. They will troubleshoot and inspect systems and buildings to determine necessary repair and/or maintenance needs. They will also need to be experienced in performing general maintenance activities such as general repair, replacing filters, preventative maintenance, painting, plastering, cleaning, mopping, waxing floors, moving furniture.


This person may travel to various Sheriff's Office buildings to perform assigned carpentry or maintenance tasks, operate trucks or other vehicles to pick up and deliver parts, supplies, materials or refuse; load and unload materials to and from vehicles;


This position will work on projects in an office and/or jail environment. They may perform as working supervisor of assigned inmate work crews for buildings and grounds of Sheriff's Office facilities; insures proper safety and security standards and methods are maintained.


Cleans work area; oils and cleans equipment; sharpens tools, performs duties of co-workers as required or assigned, attends training sessions as required, may perform other duties as required.


Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification)


  • Four (4) years apprentice experience in carpentry field and/or other work experience which evidences a thorough knowledge of carpentry methods, tools and materials and demonstrate the ability to interpret blueprints and skill in carpentry
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Proven experience in Carpentry methods and techniques; use of hand held power tools; use of light to medium equipment, use of single man lift and scissor lift


Ability To


Follow technical oral and written instructions; read and interpret blueprints; communicate effectively; develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, inmates and general public; recognize unusual or threatening conditions; instruct others; demonstrate physical strength; understand systems of mechanical repairs/procedures; diagnose mal-functions and determine corrective measures; calculate fractions/ decimals and percentages; prepare/ maintain accurate documentation.


Environment


Must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical labor (e.g., prolonged standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, lift up to 50 lbs. without material handling device, use and wear personal protective equipment: half-face respirators/dust mask, safety glasses, body harness for fall protection, earplugs/muffs and hand protection, work with sharp or rough materials, use sharp tools, power equipment, may work outdoors in variable weather conditions).
