Job Description

*This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days in office.


Buying & Merchandising Manager

  1. Buying and Planning - Montce Brand Products
  2. Direct Responsibility
  3. Analyze weekly and monthly sales, stock and on-order with the goal of optimizing sales and minimizing markdowns at the brand level and store level.
  4. Recognize and react quickly to all trends, both major and minor, in the business, whether product or store related
  5. Review plans monthly to ensure that sales and margin are optimized by class
  6. Ensure that buying direction is on target and comprehensive analysis of the business, e.g., last year results, current trends, etc
  7. Analyze new collection slower styles to add to drop ship partners in advance of markdowns
  8. Manage the financial elements of the business, e.g., OTB, IMU, MD’s, etc. for total company - Accessories, Swim, Apparel, and Active Divisions
  9. Develop markdown strategy for all divisions based on sell-through percent and planned product life span. This includes both redlines and promotional strategies in stores/online
  10. Identify inventory levels needed to support the rate of sale and the markdown strategy for all divisions based on sell-through percent, WOS, and planned product life span
  11. Manage styles to the plan, ensuring that each item is a winner and that the assortment is properly balanced and invested by ensuring there is an appropriate balance of looks, silhouettes, fabrics, patterns, color, price points, etc., and that we are taking the correct inventory position with key items and fringe and/or new items
  12. Provide purchase quantification of styles in order to maximize sales and inventory levels
  13. Monitor and evaluate sales of current styles on a weekly/monthly/seasonal basis to effectively manage receipts and inventory
  14. Conduct color-level planning based on the inventory need to support rate of sale, store presentation, targeted sell-through percent, and the current risk parameters and historical trends (long range goal)
  15. Work with production team to ensure replenishment is being prioritized properly by demand and current stock level
  16. Ensure that Accessories market vendor relations are optimal i.e., getting the best possible prices, quality and service levels with an appropriate level of “partnership”.
  17. Manage all vendor invoicing and payments/payment terms
  18. Ensure the financial success of all divisions by meeting or exceeding sales, and gross margin
  19. Formulate guidelines for style and customer choices (style OTB) based on business analysis
  20. Develop seasonal line plan tool and core style-level plans based on current forecast, historic trend and test information for key items
  21. Manage Associate Buyer for 3rd Party Brands
  22. same process as above for Montce branded items but oversee the accuracy and efficiency of the Associate Buyer
  23. Attend markets with associate buyer
  24. Train and develop Associate Buyer to fully manage the category of 3rd Party Brands


  1. Product and Attributes
  2. Manage total product attributes for all new and existing styles/collections and keep up to date for all Montce branded product
  3. Review 3rd Party Brand product attributes with Associate Buyer
  4. Oversee Buying & Merchandising Associate in creating seasonal Accessories assortment picture pack and cover page to share with all cross-functional teams
  5. Oversee Buying & Merchandising Associate and Ecommerce Coordinator in style creation, Accessories attributes, Accessories PO entry, updates and tracking


  1. Merchandising and Allocation
  2. Retail Stores
  3. New Collection merchandising visits to each store location to provide direction, training, and written recap with photos monthly for Creative Director
  4. Review and approve fixtures and store props/decor to be purchased by Visual Merchandising Coordinator via Slack
  5. Responsible for ongoing assessment of local assortments per store based on sales.
  6. Weekly Store Assortment sent to each store for store audits
  7. Weekly/Monthly sales velocity analysis
  8. Weekly or bi-weekly restock requests to manage inventory in all locations
  9. Submit transfer order requests to store and shipping managers as needed to maximize demand and inventory allocation
  10. Oversee Associate Buyer in preparation for Seasonal meeting to review new buys with store and marketing team.
  11. Ensure Associate Buyer is updating 3rd party brand books for the Visual Coordinator to print for the stores
  12. Website/Ecommerce
  13. Oversee Merchandising & Buying Associate in merchandising all Accessories landing pages on the website
  14. Attend monthly marketing & content brainstorms to provide direction on 3 party brand styles to push/market.


  1. Merchandising & Buying Team Management
  2. Oversee all responsibilities of Merchandising & Buying Assistant and ongoing training, education, and growth plan
  3. Review ongoing 3rd Party Replenishment submitted by Associate Buyer
  4. Train and develop Associate Buyer to fully manage the category of 3rd Party Brands
