Position Description


Tacoma Water is seeking a Business Systems Analyst to join the Data & Analytics team. This team advances the organization’s technical and data-related capabilities to help Tacoma Water make more informed, data-driven decisions. In this role, you will support the mission by gathering project requirements, supporting project management, capturing current state processes, testing technology solutions, developing training materials, and delivering trainings. The complexity, velocity and variability of our data continues to increase as advanced mete r infrastructure (AMI/AMR), retirements and replacement of core business data system (SAP) modules, and new environments like our data lake (Snowflake) are evolving. This position will serve in a variety of capacities related to data and analytics efforts helping to deliver cutting-edge solutions, capitalizing on new technologies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Specifically, this individual will,


  • Provide Project Management Support: Work with cross-functional teams on complex projects to coordinate system/business enhancements. Track project progress and provide updates to impacted parties. Act as a primary contact for customers on specific system/process issues or problems.
  • Develop Technology Solutions: Work with project teams to design and develop software applications, databases, and other technology solutions that support business operations; lead efforts to test and implement these solutions.
  • Advance our Data Culture: Provide support to relevant City of Tacoma data community groups. Relevant groups may include: the Tableau User Group, the Tableau Stewards group, the Data Stewards group, and the Data Community Leaders Group. Assist with trainings to help Tacoma Water realize the full value of our data assets and advance our organizational data culture. Trainings may include small group sessions related to a specific tool (i.e. Snowflake, Tableau, or the Data Catalog), specific dataset, or data-related concept (i.e. data maintenance plans). Support the documentation, standardization, and quality of Tacoma Water’s data assets.
  • Gather Requirements & Develop Technical Documentation: Gather and document business requirements, functional specifications and other documentation as needed in support of a project. Design and supports the implementation of new and improved processes, tools and enhancements to support business requirements. Participates in project planning and development. Supports project team members to validate impacts, enhancements, changes and implementations to ensure desired functionality and user acceptance.


The ideal candidate will have experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, eliciting business and technical requirements, quantifying business impact, and creating functional/technical specifications to support a desired solution. They will have the ability to successfully work cross-functionally, foster relationships with diverse groups of employees, and interact with all levels of the organization to solve complex problems. Having a sense of cu riosity and an ability to learn new technology platforms quickly will be an asset in this role.


Qualifications


Minimum Education*


Bachelor's degree public or business administration, information technology or directly related field


Minimum Experience*


2 years of analytical and/or functional analyst, user support or database maintenance work in area related to assignment


  • Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education


Desired Experience


Experience with Smartsheet, MS Office Suite , SharePoint, SQL, Lucid Chart, Tableau ( or other data visualization tool s ) , and Snowflake

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
