Business Development Specialist

Maine International Trade Center

Portland, Maine


We are working with our client The Maine International Trade Center (MITC) in seeking a Business Development Specialist to join their team based in Portland, Maine.


Requirements of the Business Development Specialist:

  • This is a flexible role and is expected to be in the office at least 3 days a week.
  • Ability to work independently to prioritize and manage workload to meet organization and position goals and targets.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout Maine on a regular basis, approximately 10% of the time, but will vary week to week.
  • Passion for international trade and Maine’s economic development opportunities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with and successfully engage with a wide range of businesses throughout the State of Maine.
  • Strong focus on client service and client relationships.
  • 4+ years’ experience in a sales or business development role, preferably in a business environment, economic development office, chamber of commerce or industry association.
  • Experience using a CRM to effectively manage current and prospective client relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Salary range starts at $60k and will be commensurate with experience.

  • Dental and Eye Care Reimbursement: $500 per year; unused benefit can be carried over to the next year but is capped at $1000.


Responsibilities of the Business Development Specialist:

  • Maintain relationships with current members to encourage use of MITC services and retain membership status. Identify potential members and decision makers and engage to secure membership commitment.
  • Work closely with President on managing sponsor relationships and identifying prospective new sponsors.
  • Identify opportunities for programs and services based on member feedback and share with President and Trade Specialist team.
  • Collaborate with Trade Specialists to monitor client work and follow up to assess satisfaction and encourage membership commitment.
  • Educate current and prospective members on MITC services, coordinating introductions to appropriate staff.
  • Ensure that MITC membership list is up to date and accurate and that staff interactions are tracked and recorded within CRM for effective member management.
  • Assist with MITC events helping with event coordination and representing the organization in a professional manner.
