AARP’s Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARP’s reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARP’s mission and value through one, integrated voice.

Are you a creative, passionate, and results-driven student interested in social media communications and community management? The AARP Brand Social Media team is looking for you! Our team creates and publishes various content across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok to support AARP's issue areas and enterprise priorities. We'll challenge you to think creatively and work innovatively on projects designed to engage our 38 million members and the 50-plus community. AARP is committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of June 2023 and will continue throughout the summer.
Responsibilities:
  • Support the creation of a social media content calendar and draft briefs for developing social posts aligned with key dates and observances
  • Research trending topics on social media, draft social media posts, participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, and engage in a support role for the daily operations of AARP Brand Social Media channels
  • Apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to help drive awareness of AARP’s priority issue areas on social media platforms, including Caregiving, Healthy Living, Fraud, Work & Jobs, Savings & Planning, as well as Veterans & Military Families, Advocacy, DE&I audiences, and more
Qualifications:
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
  • Working knowledge of multiple social media platforms and familiarity with creating social media content is a plus
  • Commitment to quality and accuracy – strong attention to detail
  • The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; be considered a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or post-doctoral student; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship and pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related fields
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter and adaptable with the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientation

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits
The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
