Job Description

Under the general supervision of the ICAP clinic Administration, the Billing Coding Analyst supports the billing and coding activities of the ICAP which includes Child Adolescent psychiatry and Infant Parent Program. This position will be responsible for coordinating billing and coding of services provided under the CBHS contracts in addition to generating related reports and tracking assessing qualitative and quantitative data for all the programs noted above. Tasks includes maintaining data relational databases, data entry, data cleaning and data collection and producing data summaries and reports to ICAP divisional leadership on weekly/monthly basis. Ensuring that billing is completed and submitted in timely manner. Additionally, the Billing Coding Analyst will share responsibility for office maintenance, telephone and client reception and provision of program level IT support. This person should have/develop understanding of relevant city and county regulations and procedures related to Medi-Cal (Avatar) and other public funding billing mechanisms. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with public health and mental health services and be comfortable with working with public sector clients.
The associated programs are multi-faceted infant, early childhood and outpatient child and adolescent mental health programs offering infant parent psychotherapy, Perinatal mental health services, mental health consultations, therapeutic play groups. The programs serves about 3000 children ages birth through 18 and their caregivers. Annually about 200 of these children and their families are seen in intensive therapy and the rest benefit from consultation to their caregivers in childcare, domestic violence and homeless shelters, family resource centers and residential substance abuse treatment centers.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Division of Infant, Child, and Adolescent Psychiatry (ICAP) is comprised of multiple child and family-serving programs, including, but not limited to, the Infant Parent Program, Child and Adolescent Services, the Family and Community Psychiatry Program and Pediatric Primary Care Behavioral Health Services. In addition, clinical research programs are housed within the ICAP division, such as the Juvenile Justice Behavioral Health lab (JJBH) and community-based research projects within the Child and Adolescent Services program. ICAP programs provide outpatient mental health care services to children and youth from birth through age 18 at ZSFG offices and in neighboring community settings, serving ~1500 unduplicated clients and / or research participants annually.

Required Qualifications

  • Familiarity of clinic medical billing practices including coding, billing systems and documentation requirements. Knowledge of ambulatory care clinic practice management including patient care workflows and processes. Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology and clinical knowledge of clinic practice area.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Data analysis, research, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Skills in data management. Ability to use relevant healthcare and clinic operations information technology, including billing systems and medical record documentation.
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks. Takes initiative. Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage several projects simultaneously, respond rapidly to conflicting priorities, and handle tasks with high degree of accuracy.
  • Minimum 1+ years of related experience.
  • Strong communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate clinic rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of medical center policies and procedures and related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with diverse staff and patients. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within clinical team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual Spanish or Cantonese speaking
