Benefits Administrator

Job Summary

The Benefits Administrator assists with the administration and ongoing delivery of benefits and leave programs. This role provides high-level customer service responding to specific, confidential and time-sensitive questions, concerns, or issues relating to benefits. This position identifies and educates employees and leaders on benefit plans and options and assists in preparing benefit communications for employee orientation, open enrollment, training sessions, projects, and/or audits.

Essential Functions

(Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities)

  • Monitors external (e.g. market trends, government regulations such as Health Care Reform, etc.) and internal practices to determine impact on existing programs and identifies best practices to help contain related costs and maximize the return on investment (ROI) of programs offered
  • Manages day-to-day administration of benefit programs
  • Conducts employee orientation and other group presentations explaining specific provisions of benefit plans and facilitates the enrollment process. Assists in processing of enrollments as needed
  • Tracks and analyzes data to improve upon benefit practices
  • Serves as primary external contact for vendors and third-party administrators
  • Leads, participates, and/or provides support for special projects, performing research, and other tasks as needed
  • Provides guidance and expertise surrounding the administration of Leave of absence programs.
  • Prepares, collects, and organizes data for routine and non-routine audits
  • Plans and organizes the roll-out of the annual benefits open enrollment period
  • Prepares communications and educational opportunities to enhance employees understanding of benefit plans and keeps materials up-to-date
  • Researches, analyzes, and compiles benefit metric reports and presents information

Non-Essential Duties and Functions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources (HR), Business Administration, or related field OR equivalent work experience
  • 3 years' customer facing experience of which 1 year is in HR
  • Efficient problem solving, planning, and analytical skills
  • Maintains understanding of current legislative changes and participates in implementing requirements of new legislation
  • Stays current on applicable laws and regulations to ensure compliance with all federal and state legislation related to benefits

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in one of the following: Associate Professional in HR (aPHR), Professional in HR (PHR), Senior Professional in HR (SPHR), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP)
  • Experience in HR with an emphasis in benefit administration
  • Bachelor's degree in HR

  • Requires prolonged sitting and telephone usage
  • Infrequent lifting to 15 pounds
  • Ability to read, hear, speak, keyboard, reason, communicate effectively and problem solve
  • Requires the use of office equipment such as computer terminals, telephones, copiers and printers

Salary Range: $52,120 – $85,724 per year
