Position Overview:
At Hillside, Inc., behavior specialists are a valued and integral member of the interdisciplinary team striving to meet the complex needs of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral conditions. Behavior specialists train and work with clinical therapists, psychiatric providers, recreational therapists, and nurses to implement Dialectical Behavior Therapy, a highly specialized treatment modality to help our clients learn ways to thrive in life with skills for mindfulness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.

Work Schedule:
The Behavioral Specialist have various schedule options, including Sun – Wed, Wed – Saturday, Mon – Friday school staff, and Mon – Fri 12:30 – 9 pm. Flexibility is required,
Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities:
- Completes daily documentation including but not limited to progress notes, observation forms, and incident reports.
- Participates with children in daily activities
- Direct supervision of children to ensure safety and stability
- Communicates with parents, caseworkers, and other outside supports as necessary
- Teaches living and social skills and assists with the implementation of coping skills and therapeutic interventions
- Transports clients to off-campus appointments and outings and provides supervision during activity.
- Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to provide ongoing assessment of changes in status and implementation of treatment plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Must be able to lift 60 to 120 lbs. without assistance and 120 to 200 lbs. with assistance, able to endure long hours of work periods without rest, and be highly alert with quick reflexes to respond to emergency situations.
- Must not have a record of felony or misdemeanor convictions
- Completion of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and Basic Life Support training upon hire.
- Preferred experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed care.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, ideally related to the child and adolescent mental health field.
- Must have a current valid State of Georgia driver’s license and be able to meet an MVR that meets the standards set in the Hillside Driving Policy.
- Preferred experience in a similar environment (school and work study programs apply) with a degree. Preferred experience 2-3 years without a degree.
