Minimum Qualifications::
Master’s Degree in Behavioral Science (psychology, social work, sociology) or special education; supplemented by training as a social worker, professional counselor, psychiatric nurse, or psychologist; and two years of experience providing behavioral health services; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess state of Georgia license as a professional counselor, clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, psychologist, psychiatric nurse, rehabilitation counselor; or certification in special education.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to process duties related to determining the level of care and providing therapy for mental health, substance abuse, and/or developmentally disabled clients, including evaluating service needs, providing behavioral health therapy and clinical consultation, and performing diagnostic assessments of clients. Behavioral Health Clinician II is distinguished from Behavioral Health Clinician III in that the former provides behavioral health therapy for clients, whereas the latter provides behavioral health therapy, diagnoses clients, and provides clinical consultation on more complex cases in addition to providing lead direction to assigned staff as required.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Provides individual, family, and/or group behavioral health therapy.
Evaluates and documents the client’s level of functioning and progress toward attainment of goals.
Administers developmental assessments to clients.
Conducts involuntary commitment evaluations and executes involuntary commitment of clients as required.
Provides clinical consultation and guidance to behavioral health providers.
Provides community consultation, education, and prevention services.
Performs diagnostic assessments of clients.
Coordinates meetings between family members, psychologists, educators, and other professionals.
Provides in-home screenings and evaluations of clients.
Coordinates treatment team meetings and client case staffing.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data using established criteria. Includes exercising discretion in determining actual or probable consequences and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide specialized or professional level counseling and medical treatment to others that typically require certification and/or a bachelor’s degree in a specific field.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, and ratios; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
