Class Concept

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in a behavioral science (psychology, social work, sociology) or special education; supplemented by training as a social worker, professional counselor, marriage and family counselor, psychiatric nurse, psychologist, or rehabilitation counselor; and four (4) years progressively responsible experience providing behavioral health services, including two (2) years supervisory experience in a behavioral health clinic and/or behavioral health program.

LICENSING:

Valid State of Georgia Driver's License or proof of mobility equivalent may be requested. State of Georgia License as a professional counselor, clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, psychologist, psychiatric nurse, rehabilitation counselor; or Certification in Special Education.

Example of Duties

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Incumbent in this class performs process duties related to overseeing a mental health, developmental disabilities, or addictive diseases program and providing direct clinical services to clients of an assigned program. Responsibilities include managing assigned staff; overseeing program coordination, planning, and development; and evaluating the effectiveness of clinical services.

This is the second-level within a three level behavioral health program services professional classification series. Behavioral Health Services Coordinator is distinguished from Behavioral Health Program Manager in that the former oversees an assigned behavioral health program, whereas the latter oversees multiple programs.

Manages assigned clinic staff, including establishing workloads, prioritizing work assignments, evaluating employee performance, interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures, resolving staff issues, and administering disciplinary action as required. Provides direct clinical services, including individual, group, and family therapy for clients under the supervision of a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist and performs diagnostic assessments and psychological testing of client's condition. Provides crisis intervention and stabilization. Provides ongoing assessments of client's progress toward goals and performs case reviews with assigned doctor, including medication monitoring and referral to community resources. Oversees program coordination, planning, and development activities. Evaluates the effectiveness of clinic services with assigned doctor. Ensures clinic compliance with operational standards. Coordinates intra-agency and inter-agency services for clients. Supervises staff on effective assessment, diagnostic treatment, and case management methods. Audits clients' charts for compliance with established documentation and treatment standards. Serves as an agency liaison to the community by networking and participating in community organizations, meetings, activities, and events related to assigned behavioral health program. Serves on committees responsible for reviewing program compliance, identifying problem areas, and recommending changes to improve program performance and services.

Managing and supervising assigned staff; Organizing and prioritizing work; Interpreting and enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; Providing and executing in-service training programs; Analyzing complex data related to clinical findings; Interviewing and evaluating behavioral health clients; Interacting effectively with clients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds; Performing effective crisis intervention and behavioral health case management; Providing socialization, therapy, and/or life skills development and support; Documenting information gathered from clients; Prioritizing clients based on intake information; Providing individual, family, and group therapy; Applying prevention and intervention strategies; Preparing and presenting oral and written communications/reports; Assessing clients and developing appropriate treatment plans; Leading individual and group counseling sessions; Coordinating behavioral health program activities; Operating personal computers, including spreadsheet, database, word processing, presentation, and other related software; Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other County personnel, officials, and the general public; Communication and interpersonal techniques as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
