Behavioral Counselor-Outpatient Peds Mental Health-Lutheran

Under the supervision of an RN provides direct patient care to patients in the Outpatient Pediatric Mental Health Treatment Center. Performs teaching groups and individual sessions for clients and provides technical services and support. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, improved patient care, a safe environment and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

• Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service.
• Provides milieu supervision and skill building groups to patients and provides 11 supervision as needed.
• Takes and records vital signs and weights.
• Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.
• Demonstrates ability to consistently meet the department work schedule.
• Assists with simple procedures as defined in work area.
• Assists with de-escalation interventions under the direction of an RN.
• Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other’s views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest.
• Performs procedures specific to the assigned area.
• Communicates therapeutically with patients to show support and concern.
• Assists in collection of urine specimens and labels all specimens in accordance with standards.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living.
• Completes timely safety rounds on patients.
• Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment.

Education Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health related field.

Experience Previous healthcare& behavioral healthcare experience Preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s) Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Multicultural sensitivity. Microsoft Office – basic computer skills. Customer/patient focused.
