Job Description
The Behavior Resource Associate supports classroom, Behavior Resource Specialist, and Mental Health/ Clinical staff. This includes the training and implementation of crisis management strategies, which reflect knowledge of the range of disabilities treated in the school. Additionally, this staff assists the Resource Specialists with the implementation and documentation of the behavior management system, including any functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans, in concert with teaching staff and the members of the Mental Health team. This staff member will fulfill all Behavior Resource Specialist duties and responsibilities in the occasional and periodic absence of the Specialist.


At the Lifeskills and Education for Students with Autism and Pervasive Behavioral Challenges (LEAP) Program, our mission is to ensure each of our students gains the independence and skills necessary to fully participate in school, community, workplace, and home life.


Our specialized autism program is a nonpublic special education day program approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.


We offer a range of educational and therapeutic services for students with complex academic, communication, social, and behavioral needs. Our program emphasizes the development of lifelong skills through an active approach to learning, including participation in community and work-based learning opportunities that allow them to apply skills outside of the classroom.


  • Implement the use of technology in operational and administrative functions in accordance with the National Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for staff.
  • Work in classrooms to assist with functional behavioral assessments (FBA), behavior intervention plan conception, implementation (including coordinating acquisition or development of materials necessary to implement protocols), and maintenance.
  • Review the collection of data for evaluation of effective classroom practice.
  • Provide programmatic coverage as needed and assigned by supervisor.
  • Assist Resource Specialist to write reports, provide documentation of FBAs and behavior intervention plans.
  • Use appropriate documentation materials and maintain appropriate records on students.
  • Implement appropriate behavior management strategies and protocols for students.
  • Implement behavioral goals and objectives for individual students as stated in the IEP.
  • Provide Resource Specialist and administration with summarized program data as requested.
  • Respond to behavioral crises as part of school-wide crisis management procedures.
  • Assist Resource Specialist to conduct behavior and crisis management training and in-service training.
  • Maintain communication with the clinical department and administrators regarding all issues pertaining to students on caseload.


EDUCATION


High School Diploma or GED required.


EXPERIENCE


A minimum of one year of previous experience with disabled population is required.


RELATED TRAINING


PCM or CPI training will be provided by the department, according to the individual program requirements. Employee must achieve and maintain certification (at the “Practitioner-2” level or higher for PCM) according to the timeline established within the departmental policy.
