The Albert C. Wiltshire Employment Center recruits qualified candidates for positions within the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a 300-acre industrial park housing over 400+ businesses within the manufacturing, food, media, technology, and creative fields.
A Brooklyn Navy Yard-based world's leading soil-based rooftop farming, events, and intensive green roof business is seeking a passionate and organized part-time temporary Bartender to provide standout beverage and customer experience at our events venue atop our rooftop farm in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The beverage program serves mostly private events, along with some public ticketed events, and centers on farm-to-table beverages.
Bartenders will help with most aspects of day-of beverage service for our events including: helping prep garnish, distributing batched beverages for serving, and assisting with other beverage service items; following internal protocols and best practices for setup and breakdown of bar; providing professional and welcoming bartending at events; facilitating positive and safe guest experience; and complying with all DOH and SLA laws and regulations.
Our bartenders should be personable and excellent communicators, who can multi-task and calmly maintain beverage service in a fast paced environment. They should be team players, possessing excellent customer service. They genuinely enjoy hosting people and are respectful in all interactions with colleagues, guests, and partner organizations, and take pride in upholding the company's culture of positivity, friendliness, respect, and professionalism. Bartenders will report to the Beverage Manager, with additional oversight and support from the Beverage Captain and the Programming & Events Operations Manager.
SCHEDULE:
Bartenders will work part time throughout the Season, from May through October, with Thursday-Sunday work nights regularly anticipated during our primary events season and most hours skewing to the weekends. Overall, the schedule aims at creating a more balanced work life for those in the beverage/hospitality world.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create a positive and safe guest experience. Welcome guests, answering questions about the company-- act as a “brand ambassador.”
- Provide efficient, professional, and high quality beverage service at all events and programs.
- Set up, execute, breakdown, and maintain a clean and organized bar, and provide gracious yet efficient beverage service.
- Maintain a professional, helpful presence and enforce farm policies without negatively affecting guest experience.
- Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the business, to maintain an aesthetically driven, functional, and welcoming space, and to find opportunities for support and synergy across the company.
- Execute in-house beverage program protocols and help update systems as-needed. Be meticulous about best practices and implementing regulatory requirements.
- Support Beverage Captain and Beverage Manager in executing our Beverage Program’s brand and mission of providing high quality, affordable farm-to-glass wine, beer, cider, liquor, and non-alcoholic drinks.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS MANY OF THE QUALIFICATIONS BELOW:
- Is able to lift 40 lbs repeatedly, and to squat, bend over, and reach for extended periods of time.
- Can take direction and work collaboratively, helping to maintain positive morale alongside team.
- Execute in-house beverage program protocols and help update systems as-needed. Be meticulous about best practices and implementing regulatory requirements.
- Provide efficient, professional, and high quality beverage service at all events and programs.
- Is a doer: upon finishing a task, will immediately begin undertaking another; thinks big picture while also being attentive to the details. Can multitask and prioritize workload.
- Can set up and break down a bar, can follow best service practices.
- Is passionate about sustainable agriculture, food, and beverage.
- Familiarity with NYC DOH food safety principles and sanitary bartending service best practices is a plus.
- Is a consummate people-person and can thoughtfully and respectfully represent the dynamic events by the company.
- Has knowledge of and can comfortably prepare classic cocktails.
- Has prior experience bar-backing and/or bartending. Specific experience serving at events venues is a plus.
