Job Description

The temporary Athletics Business Manager is responsible for most business and financial activities in the Athletics Department. The position is a 3-month part-time temporary position.


Required Education


  • Bachelor’s Degree


Required Experience


  • Previous experience managing finance and budgets as well as overseeing clerical staff.


Primary Duties/Essential Functions


Budgets


  • Assists coaches with budget planning and in preparation of financial documents for—travel arrangements, check requests and purchase orders.
  • Verifies proper documentation of department transactions in university financial records.
  • Act as liaison between Athletics and other University departments such as Advancement, Business Office, Payroll, and Student Financial Services.
  • Assists Athletics Director in the managing of 15 budgets. Audits expenditures to insure that all financial transactions are correctly recorded within the approved budget.
  • Processes invoices and credits of department contract with Nike, verifying receipt/return of product.


Human Resources


  • Serves as the department liaison with the university’s human resources office.


Administrative Assistance


  • Manages confidential staff records and processes faculty/coaches contracts.
  • Manages financial aspects of special projects as assigned (i.e. NCAA conference, regional, national championship events).
  • Answers phone calls to the Athletics Department.
  • Serves as the department liaison for all travel arrangements.


Skills


  • Management and organizational skills. Ability to problem solve and meet people. Strong oral and written communication skills, Good computer skills, ability to analyze talent and present in-game adjustments.

  • Exercise good judgment and discretionary skills in determining when to act independently and when to consult management prior to taking action.
  • Work collaboratively with a team, as well as an independent contributor.
  • Work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Interpersonal communication, assessment and evaluation

  • Ability to stand for extended time.
  • Requires repetitive motions and sitting at computer keyboard.
  • Hearing and speaking on the telephone.
  • Ability to conduct business at other offices on campus.
  • Ability to bend, grasp, reach, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.


Visual Demands


  • Reading, writing notes, and computer monitor.


Environment


  • Office, indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, various weather and temperature conditions.


Technologies


  • Proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Office.


Compensation


  • Grade 10: $25.94 - $29.83 is the hourly salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
