2023-2024 RISE After-School Program Part-Time Program Instructor

School Overview
Over Drew Charter School’s twenty-year history, the school has grown to serve grades PreK-12 with nearly 1,900 students in a “cradle-to-college” pipeline, including two onsite early learning partners. Drew implements a rigorous and supportive educational continuum, which includes tailored Response to Intervention (RTI) support, a rigorous STEAM/Project-Based Learning (PBL) instructional model, and a robust College and Career Readiness program. Every element has been thoughtfully designed to ensure all students succeed and to eliminate opportunity gaps and inequities in educational outcomes for our diverse population of students. More than just a school, Drew is at the heart of a community-wide commitment to launching all students on a pathway to health, impact, and prosperity.

Program Overview
R.I.S.E. is a STEAM focused after school program at Charles R. Drew Charter School. We provide engaging academic and enrichment opportunities to over 450 students in grades PreK to 5th grade. Students are divided into academies based on grade level: Primary Academy (PreK – 2nd), Elementary Academy (3rd – 5th). Each week, students participate in two enrichment courses of their choosing instructed by industry professionals. Additionally, participants complete various activities with Program Instructors that focus on combining core subjects, STEAM and recreation. Program hours are from 3:45 – 6:00. This position reports to the RISE Site Coordinator.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, performances, presentations, etc. as required and prepare students for performances or presentations as appropriate.
  • Implement grade appropriate lessons and special initiatives based upon the RISE curriculum. Maintain daily class attendance and snack records.
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Lead single grade level academic class.
  • Ensure students adhere to school-wide COVID protocols.
  • Monitor student progress and needs as appropriate and report regularly to the Project Facilitator.
  • Actively engage students in activities.
  • Meet with other RISE staff to create grade appropriate lesson plans.
  • Monitor and assist students during enrichment courses.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined. Qualifications
  • Assist students with reading and homework assignments.
  • Instructors work 2.25 hours per day (3:45 pm – 6:00 pm), 5 days per week.
  • Utilize various electronic devices and computer programs for instruction.
  • Demonstrated involvement and commitment to the youth community;
  • Punctuality and professionalism;
  • Strong commitment to the program and students;
  • Good administrative and supervisory skills;
  • Creativity, patience, and a good sense of humor;
  • Ability to attend all required trainings, meetings, etc. Work Experience
  • Experience in education, youth development, or a related field (Preferred)
  • Strong classroom management/behavior management skills;
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with and/or teaching children Compensation and Benefits
