Job Description
Summary:


Reporting to the Academic Advising Center, the Athletic Certification Officer is an independent authority and subject matter expert responsible for obtaining, evaluating and documenting the academic credentials of current, former and potential student-athletes in accordance with the NCAA, Sunshine State Conference and Lynn University policy. Working independently under the general supervision of the Director of Academic Advising, the Athletic Certification Officer determines the athletic academic eligibility of all student-athletes for NCAA Division II practice and competition in collaboration with Athletics, the Registrar's Office, Admissions, academic advisors, and a broad set of campus stakeholders.


The individual must maintain documentation of information used to make determinations in accordance with institutional and NCAA requirements and develop procedures and business processes related to the athletic certification process.


The individual must also have knowledge of and experience with the interpretation and application of institutional, NCAA and SSC rules, regulations and processes regarding initial and continuing athletic eligibility.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Monitor and approve all course withdrawals.
  • Monitor, interpret, apply and certify eligibility within University policies and regulations, the Sunshine State Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for all sports under limited supervision.
  • Maintain student athlete records to for eligibility certification.
  • Coordinate and administer the evaluation and determination of the initial eligibility and continuing eligibility of all student-athletes for all practice and competition approvals.
  • Complete student-athlete competition certifications for both fall and spring semesters. This includes a review of academic and amateurisms certifications via the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Review and analyze transfer evaluations to determine the eligibility of incoming and current student athletes.
  • Collaborate with representatives from the compliance office in the athletic department, deans, admissions, institutional research, international student services, financial aid and any other relevant department within the University.
  • Be a resource for student athletes on matters of NCAA Eligibility.
  • Review summer school scholarship applications for all student-athletes.
  • Serve as an expert resource regarding University academic policies and procedures and NCAA academic eligibility.
  • Continually monitor relevant software and keep student-athlete data up to date.
  • Ensure continued education and awareness of NCAA academic eligibility and University academic policies to surrounding stakeholder departments and personnel, including to compliance personnel, the athletic department, academic advising and other campus departments as needed.
  • Monitor, interpret, and apply University and NCAA rules, regulations and policies, in certifying academic progress toward degree requirements for all continuing and incoming transfer student-athletes.
  • Provide academic data for NCAA and Sunshine State Conference reporting requirements as needed, such as the GSR and ASR reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide detailed student-athlete reports to various constituents upon request, such as: Full Time enrollment verification, GPA, course registration, eligibility needs, summer credit requirements, students who must declare a major, mid-term and final semester grades, etc.


Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency of MS Office.
  • Perceptive Content/Jenzabar/Workday/NCAA Apps experience a plus.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds up to 1/3 of the time.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a Division I or II Athletic Department.
