Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.
Basic Qualifications for level 1:
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100) specification.
- Minimum 0-1 year’ experience in creating and modifying templates, style sheets, and formats.
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field, 0-1 year’ technical editing experience.
- Experience with structured (HTML, SGML, or XML, and S1000 or DITA) content.
- U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance (or higher).
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated with good problem solving and organization skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100).
- Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
- Minimum of 0- 1 year experience with structured authoring applications, such as: MadCap, FrameMaker, or Arbortext.
- Member of the Society for Technical Communicators (STC).

- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in creating and modifying templates, style sheets, and formats.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

- Self-motivated with good problem solving and organization skills.
- U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance (or higher).
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field, 3 years of experience with a bachelors, 1 year with a Masters of’ technical editing experience.
- Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100) specification.
- Experience with structured (HTML, SGML, or XML, and S1000 or DITA) content.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Member of the Society for Technical Communicators (STC).
