Job Description
CenterPoint Energy is looking for an Associate Safety Specialist to join our Safety & Technical Training Team, located in Houston, TX, Evansville, IN or Minneapolis, MN.
You will have the ability to: facilitates a comprehensive occupational injury care plan through quality, cost-effective treatments from first report of injury through closure of a claim. Primary focus will be on the welfare of the injured worker, confirmation of the validity of the claim and collaboration and compliance with internal/external stakeholders, CNP policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.

To Be Successful In This Role You Will
  • Documents employee accidents and corresponding communication in Workers Compensation claims system.
  • Coordinates and tracks alternate assignments for injured workers within their capabilities.
  • Monitors employee work-related illness and injury trends and assesses, develops, and implements strategies to prevent work-acquired injury or illness and expedite return to work.
  • Identifies occupational health champions across organization with high injury rates and collaborates with appropriate staff to promote safe work practices.
  • Works closely with management to ensure that all health and safety standards are met to safeguard the health and wellbeing of employees.
  • Proactively manages all active claims to assess progress/response to treatment, prevent lapses or delays in treatment, obtain regular updates on work status and facilitates injured worker’s return to work.
  • Provides medical case management and acute injury management for injured workers in conjunction with medical providers, supervisors, and worker’s compensation management team.
  • Provides orientation and training for leaders, employees, and providers in the areas of employee occupational health and the worker’s compensation process.
  • Serves as liaison between medical providers and injured workers for coordination of care to expedite appropriate medical treatment and communications with worker’s compensation management team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Your Background Includes
  • Requires an associate degree in business or safety related field from an accredited college or university. In lieu of a degree four (4) years of relevant work experience. Every two (2) years of experience is equivalent to one (1) year of education.
  • Requires three (3) years of working experience in either an employee health and/or occupational health capacity.
A Bonus To Have
  • Riskonnect database experience.
  • Worker’s compensation experience.
  • SHRM Certification.
