Description

About this role

BlackRock Private Markets

Charged with establishing BlackRock as clients’ preeminent partner in alternative investing globally, BlackRock Private Markets is one of the top five largest alternative asset managers in the world today. We are active in all asset classes and connect them in ways other firms can’t match, operating on an integrated platform consisting of real estate, infrastructure, credit, private equity, and hedge funds. Our scale means we offer expertise and access unique to BlackRock, and you’ll collaborate with teams across our firm in unexpected ways. As part of a key growth engine for the firm, you’ll be invited to continue building the platform that is shaping the future of Alts investing by creating and evolving innovative investment ideas and tech solutions on a team that continuously outperforms – setting new standards.

BlackRock Impact Opportunities Overview

Founded in 2021, the BlackRock Impact Opportunities (BIO) platform is a $1 billion+ return-seeking impact-investing strategy focused on making direct investments across the private markets universe.

BIO’s first vintage Fund aims to uncover compelling investment opportunities for our clients by investing in businesses and projects owned, led by, or serving people of color, with a particular focus on Black, Latinx and Native American communities in the United States.

The Fund takes a dynamic approach to addressing the issue of racial inequity through direct investments across alternative asset classes - Private Equity, Private Credit, Real Assets, and other niche private markets strategies and across sectors. BIO was designed to pursue opportunities that have historically been undercapitalized and, as a result, may offer differentiated sources of return.

Job Responsibilities

The BIO team is seeking an Associate-level investment professional to support the investment process across a variety of alternative asset classes. The Associate must have a passion for investing and will be an active participant in the direct investment process including performing screening, research, financial modeling, and other quantitative & qualitative analyses as part of the investment team.

In addition to assisting the team with sourcing, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities, the Associate will also support the monitoring and managing investments over the investment period. This person may also represent the firm and BIO in public forums and is expected to support the BlackRock’s broader efforts across the impact and sustainability ecosystem.

Given the growth trajectory of the BIO platform, the team is looking for a self-starter, who would be keen to take a leadership role in building the business. Critical to the individual’s success will be their intellectual curiosity, investment judgment, ability to work constructively with investment partners, willingness to take initiative, and resourcefulness.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Candidates must be comfortable participating in diligence meetings with senior management; portfolio companies, sponsors and other investment professionals
  • Proven experience in organizing and managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas, both written and oral, to internal and external audiences across various levels of seniority
  • Must demonstrate integrity and alignment to BlackRock’s principles and commitment as a trusted fiduciary to our clients.
  • Fluency in Spanish is helpful
  • Passion for investing, intellectual curiosity as well as strong analytical, modeling, and critical reasoning skills
  • Must be able to work in team-oriented environment and show ability to quickly climb learning curve
  • Experience with one or more alternative asset classes (Private Equity, Private Credit, Real Assets) preferred
  • 2-5 years of work experience in private equity, investment banking, management consulting, or other comparable role in industry
  • Ability to work effectively at all levels of an organization and build strong relationships with team members and investment professionals across the industry
  • Strong sense of purpose around BIO’s impact objectives
  • Excellent academic record required

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $170,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our Benefits

To help you stay energized, engaged and inspired, we offer a wide range of benefits including a strong retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, comprehensive healthcare, support for working parents and Flexible Time Off (FTO) so you can relax, recharge and be there for the people you care about.

Our hybrid work model

BlackRock’s hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration and apprenticeship that enriches the experience of our employees, while supporting flexibility for all. Employees are currently required to work at least 3 days in the office each week, with the flexibility to work from home up to 2 days a week; some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities. Beginning in September, all employees will shift to at least 4 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 1 day a week. We remain focused on increasing the impactful moments that arise when we work together in person – aligned with our commitment to performance and innovation. As a new joiner, you can count on this hybrid model to accelerate your learning and onboarding experience here at BlackRock.
