Job Description

The Associate Director, People, Organization and Capabilities will establish and scale talent initiatives for the global R&D organization. Reporting to the Senior Director, People, Organization & Capabilities, the AD will support the planning and implementation of talent, diversity, culture, and performance initiatives for the global R&D organization to enable profitable business growth. They will manage local adaptation and implementation of key global development programs and processes related to Workforce Planning, Succession Planning and Management, Performance Management, Talent Development, Leadership Development, Mentoring, Career Pathing, Employee Engagement, Training and Change Management.


The AD will collaborate with North America HR and global Talent Management to successfully embed key concepts and processes which facilitate Ipsen “Way of Being” culture and position Ipsen as a destination organization.


Job Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Infuse diversity lens in all talent processes to drive inclusion and a diverse workforce.
  • Create ways to foster more talent mobility across the organization for high-potential and high-performing talent and enrich succession plans in alignment with long-range business strategies and objectives.
  • Co-create in collaboration with the HR Business Lead for R&D, the RD leadership team and the Global Ipsen talent network and implement a global R&D Talent Management strategy linked to the global strategy.
  • Refine global strategy to meet the needs of global R&D and North America site on workforce planning strategy that aligns with Ipsen’s goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners to ensure all talent processes are clearly communicated, aligned and on-time to enable a culture of accountability and foster talent cross-pollination.
  • Improve organizational effectiveness through the development and deployment of solutions to enhance leadership, improve productivity and drive a performance culture.
  • Lead change management initiatives by creating awareness, understanding, buy-in, and ownership for change; apply change management process and tools to create a strategy to support adoption of change in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a partner to provide expert counsel on organizational design issues.
  • Develop best-in-class Talent Review process and cadence for global R&D and work in close concert with global colleagues to facilitate dialogue around key talent.
  • Develop a process for identifying and developing key talent, both critical positions and high-potential talent.
  • Partner with HRBPS and compensation to ensure respective communications and timelines are executed appropriately.
  • Proactively plan and execute innovative ways to develop next generation leaders.
  • Oversee strategies to retain and accelerate development of key talent and successor candidates.
  • Champion R&D Employee Engagement efforts; develop metrics to track engagement and ideas to improve engagement.
  • Develop metrics and measures to determine effectiveness and business impact of talent management initiatives (e.g. training, leadership and organizational development programs). Ensure the measurement of progress and appropriate communication thereof.


Knowledge, abilities & experience

  • Ability to foster change in individuals and organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated talent and organizational development knowledge required including strong background in workforce planning, individual development, high potential/top talent development, mentoring and coaching.
  • Must be able to inspire, effectively coach, consult, lead and influence others.
  • Pharmaceutical/Biotech experience preferred but not required.
  • Master’s degree in business, organizational behavior, HR Management or related field preferred.
  • Local to the Cambridge, MA area with ability to work on-site 2-3 days per week, on average
  • 6+ years of relevant, demonstrated & practical experience developing robust organizational development and workforce planning strategies that positively impact the business bottom line.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically with a “roll up your sleeves” pragmatism.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) and the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
