Job Summary


The Associate Athletic Director /  SWA  is a critical position within the athletic department, sharing responsibility for managing and overseeing the athletics program, assist in DE&I policies and programming, ensuring compliance with NCAA and conference regulations, and serving as an advocate for women's and all athletics within St. John’s and the BIG EAST Conference communities.


Essential Functions


Associate Athletic Director / Senior Women’s Administrator ( SWA )


The Associate AD ( AAD) Responsibilities Include


The Associate AD is a critical member of the athletic department executive leadership team and serves as a liaison between the athletics department and the university administration in many areas, including Title IX, DE&I and HR. Also serves as a representative for St. John’s Athletics within the BIG EAST Con ference and the NCAA.


  • Senior Women’s Administrator: The  SWA  reports to the Athletic Director and serves as an advocate for the overall management and supervision of the athletics program, including coaches, staff, and student-athletes.
  • Title IX Compliance: The AAD ensures compliance with Title IX regulations, which prohibit gender discrimination in athletics, by monitoring and evaluating the athletic department's gender equity policies, practices, and programs.
  • Human Resources: Works with University HR to develop and implement policies and procedures related to human resources management, including employee handbooks, job descriptions, and performance management guidelines.
  • Strategic Planning: The AAD plays a key role in the department's strategic planning process, helping to develop and implement the department's goals and objectives for athletics.
  • Title IX Coordinator: Serve in role for athletics and the University at-large.
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Will chair the Athletics Council on Community, Culture and Social Justice
  • Student-Athlete Welfare: The AAD is responsible for ensuring that the needs and concerns of student-athletes are addressed, including issues related to academic support, health and wellness, and personal development.
  • Human Resources:  Work closely with coaches and athletic administrators to ensure that recruitment and retention efforts are inclusive and to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all athletes, regardless of their background.
  •    Conference Representation: The  SWA  serves as a primary liaison with the BIG EAST conference, representing the program in conference meetings and helping to shape conference policies related to intercollegiate athletics.
  • Sports Administrator: Serve as a primary sports administrator for women’s basketball, including game scheduling and administrative responsibilities. Will also supervise sports administrators for all women’s intercollegiate sports programs.


Competencies


Experience in Athletic Administration, Sports Supervisions,


Expertise and experience in Softball instruction, training, and team competition.


Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.


The ability to work effectively with administrators, coaches, faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated dedication to the full academic and social development of athletics department.

This position is full-time: days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Gameday responsibilities and travelling is required, as well as select nights and weekend.

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) required
  • Bachelors’ degree required, Master’s degree preferred in related field
  • 6-10 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual/hourly salary range for this position is $110,000 - $120,000 . St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.


This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
