Job Description
The temporary Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist in the overall injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, short-term and long-term rehabilitation, education and counseling, and athletics related health care administration of all student-athletes in consultation with and under the supervision of the Team Physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel.


Responsibilities
  • Assist with the enforcement of the Division of Sports Medicine code of conduct and rules and regulations for the use of the athletic training facilities and equipment.
  • Share the responsibility of maintaining and organizing the Athletic Training Room file system, including medical records, insurance claims and medical bills in compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Empire Eight Athletic Conference (EEAC) rules and regulations.
  • Represent Alfred University and the Division of Sports Medicine at university, conference, and/or national meetings as required or requested.
  • Mentorship and positive role model for Athletic Training Students
  • Annual training sessions
  • Safety: Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
  • Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Head Athletic Trainer in his/her absence.
  • Periodically meet with selected coaching personnel to identify problem areas and to establish treatment goals.
  • Preparation of Athletic Training Students for the BOC examination
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Coordinating the disposal of hazardous waste
  • Travel with athletic teams as necessary and as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Attend scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
  • Assist with the organization and administration of the NCAA and in-house substance abuse testing program.
  • Assist with the organization, administration, and education of athletic training students, including but not limited to:
  • Complete annual end-of-season athletic training reports for individual teams.
  • Field supervision of assigned Athletic Training Students
  • Assist with the compilation, input, and organization of daily medical records.
  • Share in the responsibility of Athletic Training Facility maintenance and upkeep.
  • Maintain certification requirements of the Board of Certification (BOC) and the State of New York.
  • Clear communication through constructive feedback and positive support for Athletic Training Students
  • Compliance with OSHA and state standards and procedures
  • Organize and administer an Exposure Control Plan for Blood-borne Pathogens as dictated by the State of New York and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), including:
  • Provide daily injury prevention, on-site evaluation and treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer and Team Physician(s).
  • Assist with the inventory, receiving, and stocking of all Athletic Training Facility supplies and equipment.
  • Formal Clinical evaluation of Athletic Training Students through mid and end semester evaluations
  • Report the status of injured student-athletes to the coaching staff as directed.
  • Determine a student-athlete's ability to practice and/or compete in competition in consultation with the Team Physician(s).


Requirements


  • Collegiate experience preferred
  • Teaching experience and first aid/ CPR instructor's certification is preferred
  • Must be certified by the Board of Certification (BOC)
  • Licensed by the State of New York or Eligible for licensure by the State of New York
  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field preferred
