The Assistant Vice President of Athletics Development will be responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive fundraising program to secure significant and ongoing support for the University’s Athletics department. Villanova’s broad-based Athletics program, committed to excellence both in the classroom and in competition, is comprised of 24 NCAA Division I men’s and women’s varsity teams and over 500 student-athletes. In addition, club sports and an extensive intramurals and recreation program fall under the auspices of the Athletics department. Villanova is a member of the Big East Conference and the Colonial Athletic Association Football Conference. The AVP will create a vision and provide leadership for all fundraising revenue generation efforts and be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive plan for promoting, planning and managing all development activities related to Athletics such as major gift solicitation, capital projects, as well as working in conjunction with teams dedicated to planned giving, annual giving, special events and stewardship . In addition, the AVP will be responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of a pool of leadership gift prospects. The AVP will contribute to the overall advancement department by creative problem solving and integrating sound development sensibilities throughout the Athletics department in addition to building a cohesive team and providing strong leadership.

Duties And Responsibilities


  • Develop regular reports for the Vice President to summarize activity and progress toward established goals.
  • Supervise Athletics Development staff and work with them to develop appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies. Create an ongoing program of major gift prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation which will measurably increase dollars raised.
  • Supervise stewardship activities for Athletics donors and oversee the policies and procedures for providing donors with tickets to Athletic events this includes reviewing and assisting with policies related to Nova Points. Manage gameday seating for men’s basketball program.
  • Develop the structure and manage the day-to-day activities of all Athletics fundraising programs with particular emphasis on major gifts. Collaborate with Athletics Department senior staff, coaches, and essential personnel to support the Department’s fundraising needs. Identify program and project goals and regularly evaluate Athletics Development staff progress towards these goals.
  • Manage a portfolio of leadership prospects. Raise endowments and other private financial support for intercollegiate Athletics pursuant to the policies of the NCAA .
  • Initiate collaborations between the regional and college-based directors of development.
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Diplomacy, tact, and discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality required.
  • 10+ years of supervisory/leadership experience in the development field, preferably in athletics.
  • Demonstrated accomplishment in the acquisition of major gifts required.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Athletic program experience is required.
  • Ability to interact effectively and productively with all levels of staff at the University required.
  • In-depth knowledge of all areas of a higher education development function, including major gifts and annual programs is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership experience required.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Master’s degree preferred.


Physical Requirements And/or Unusual Work Hours


Evening and weekend commitments required on a regular basis. Ability to travel required.
