Assistant Professor, Non-Tenured - English (Writing Generalist)

Xavier University of Louisiana, the only Catholic Historically Black College and University (HBCU), is seeking to hire a non-tenure-track, full-time assistant professor of English, with the appointment to begin August 2023. Qualified candidates should have a M.F.A. or PhD by the time of appointment. The position offers opportunity to develop and teach upper-level undergraduate courses within the candidate’s area(s) of specialization, to teach courses in creative writing, technical writing, and world literature, and to teach first-year composition classes. The position includes the opportunity to teach and work within a diverse faculty and student body, in an historic, mission-driven institution in the unique city of New Orleans. The teaching load is 4/4. The Department of English recognizes writing as an act of justice and partners with students through mentorship and dialogue to promote marginalized and silenced voices, and to create and critique powerful works of literature. The Department of English offers bachelor’s degrees in English and English Education, as well as minors in English, Creative Writing, Professional Writing, and Digital Humanities. English also houses an annual, undergraduate journal of creative writing, New Voices, and Xavier Review Press, which publishes two books per year on the arts and humanities, as well as Xavier Review, one of the longest-running literary journals in the region: www.xavierreview.com. XRP has special interests in the American South, New Orleans, the Gulf and Caribbean sphere, and African American culture, ethnography, and religion.
