The English Department at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge invites applications for a tenure‐track position in English Education at the level of assistant professor to begin August 2023. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the teaching of English Language Arts in middle and high schools, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in related fields. Of particular interest alongside a primary focus on English Education is expertise in supporting areas such as translingual or multilingual literacies, community‐based literacies, writing studies, rhetoric, or digital humanities. We are also looking for candidates who can successfully mentor and support future educators and can foster an inclusive environment inside and outside the classroom.
This is a full‐time, nine‐month position in the English Department with opportunities for collaboration with the School of Education. The position requires commitments to research, teaching, and service.
Teaching Expectations: The teaching load is 2/2 and consists of relevant undergraduate and graduate courses in English Education, such as our own ENGL 3203 (Introduction to English Secondary Education), ENGL3301 (Writing: Practice, Pedagogy, and History), ENGL4203 (Research and Writing in the Teaching of English), and ENGL 4204 (Capstone Seminar in English Education). The new hire will also have opportunities to teach other related courses in the Rhetoric, Writing and Culture concentration.
Research Expectations: A well-planned research and publishing agenda at the level of an R1 record is required for the position to meet the expectations for our tenure-track faculty.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in English Education or closely related field. Applicants who are A.B.D. and will complete the Ph.D. by the time of appointment will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with successful teaching experience at the middle or high school level in English Language Arts, evidence of scholarly productivity, and a commitment to cross‐institutional partnerships are of particular interest.
