Position Objective: To assist the Central Park (CPZ) O&M manager in maintaining CPZ facilities and grounds, oversee projects performed by outside contractors and manage department staff.
Principal Responsibilities:
Oversee the general maintenance, repair and upkeep of Central Park Zoo property, including buildings grounds, systems and equipment.
Manage O&M staff including assignment of projects/tasks including painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and groundskeeping.
Coordinate and provide oversight for work performed by outside contractors.
Collaborate with Central Park Zoo staff to ensure preventive maintenance (PM), work orders and other requests are done in timely manner.
Perform all administrative and managerial duties associated with the maintenance operations at Central Park Zoo including, but not limited to budget management; staff management and development; purchasing; safety; and adherence to all WCS established policies and procedures.
Assist manager in preparation and maintaining the O&M department operating budget.
Assist manager in hiring, training, and providing leadership for all full-time and seasonal O&M staff.
Assist manager in maintaining, approving, and submitting time sheets for O&M staff.
Assist manager in purchasing, initiate Purchase Requisitions and approve vendor payments for O&M purchases when manager is unavailable.
Coordinate O&M activities with other departments to facilitate efficient completion of repair/improvement tasks with minimal interference/interruption to guest experience or animal access to exhibit habitats.
Qualification Requirements
At least five years of hands-on experience in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and
HVAC.
Computer knowledge including basic word processing and spreadsheets and
ability to master job-specific software.
Successful experience supervising a maintenance crew.
Ability to represent WCS professionally and to establish and maintain positive,
effective working relationships with employees, colleagues, City and other
government agencies, outside contractors, and the general public.
Valid NY, NJ, or CT Driver's License required.
Physical Requirements:
The position requires work outdoors in all weather conditions and office environments.
Tasks require manual dexterity and the ability to safely use hand and power tools (eg. drills, saws) and operate equipment (e.g. tractor, snow removal machines, jack hammer, table saw).
Some tasks require climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, and moderate lifting up to 50 pounds.

Salary Range
$78,000 - $82,000
