Position Summary / Career Interest:
Operating independently, the Legal Contract Analyst is accountable for the contracting process from start to finish, including analysis and negotiation of contract terms and conditions, and for drafting custom contracts as needed. Position ensures that contracts include appropriate provisions in compliance with Hospital policy, accreditation standards, and federal and state healthcare program regulations. The Legal Contract Analyst manages all types of health care business related agreements and contracts (IT, services, equipment, product purchases, professional clinical services, etc.) This position works with all levels of leadership and requires the ability to work under tight deadlines and provide creative solutions to resolve conflict with external parties. This position serves as a frontline team lead, performing legal reviews and analysis of contracts, and providing subject matter expertise and legal contract review supervision to other department personnel, as requested or directed by Director of Contracting and/or Assistant General Counsel - Contracting. The successful candidate will be equally effective as an individual contributor and a team player.
Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and expands knowledge of healthcare contracting issues by proactively seeking out company sponsored and self-directed training opportunities, including continuing legal education courses.
  • Ensures that contracts effectively protect the interests of the organization by managing the entire lifecycle of contracts, from initial review through expiration or termination.
  • Increases the scope and quality of contracting department services by initiating and managing special department projects.
  • Provides timely review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts requested by internal clients, through excellent interpersonal, organization, and time management skills.
  • Makes positive contributions to team and organization through ongoing collaboration with colleagues, providing additional legal guidance, supervision and oversight of team members’ contract reviews based upon legal education and experience as requested/directed by Director of Contracting and/or Assistant General Counsel - Contracting, and by serving as a subject matter expert for team members and internal clients, providing counsel on contractual terms and corporate contracting policy in an easy to understand manner.
  • Communicates with internal management and staff on requested contractual arrangements, business terms and other required information regarding contracts required for healthcare business operations.
  • Analyzes and negotiates contract terms and conditions for multiple contract types, including, but not limited to purchasing, capital acquisition, maintenance, clinical affiliations, patient transfer, and clinical and non-clinical professional services.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
  • Ensures contracts include appropriate provisions in compliance with Hospital policy, accreditation standards, and federal and state healthcare program regulations by using standard Hospital templates, drafting custom contracts, and negotiating the terms of vendor-provided agreements.
  • Meets or exceeds departmental goals for contract review turnaround times, while ensuring that each internal client receives the highest level of quality of service available.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required:
  • Admission, or eligible for admission, to Kansas bar
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with team members and internal clients.
  • Read, write, and speak English
  • Professionalism
  • Ability to draft general correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and explain contract terms and conditions.
  • Ability to coordinate work with others
  • Five years of legal experience in a position negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Experience in maintaining confidentiality
  • Experience with project management skills; multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to communicate well with others (written and oral); customer service skills
  • Frontline leadership experience, with ability to provide guidance and oversight of colleague’s contract reviews, as needed
  • Juris Doctorate
  • Ability to use initiative and judgement and to make independent decisions within established policies and procedures
  • Ability to prepare both simple and complex legal contracting documents
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills
Preferred:
  • Experience in healthcare, regulatory, or commercial law.
