Summary of Position
The New Hampshire Youth Success Project is a state-wide board of young people who have experienced unaccompanied homelessness while under the age of 25. We believe that we are the experts in our own experiences and must be included in conversations about youth homelessness and share decision making power with adults working on this issue. This includes being paid for our time and expertise, receiving personal and professional development support, and working with adults who are ready to collaborate with us in a real and authentic way.
The Youth Success Project connects youth and young adults to spaces where they can make positive change and provides them with support and tools to have meaningful and authentic involvement. The NH Youth Success Project is a Youth Action Board, Youth Action Boards exist across the country and do similar work within their communities.
Vision: The vision of the Youth Success Project is that every young person’s needs are met in the state of New Hampshire and that young people are entrusted to make decisions about their own lives.
Mission: The mission of the Youth Success Project is to create an equitable platform for youth voice in decision making spaces through collective power and advocacy work led by those who have been most marginalized.

The YSP Assistant Director is accountable to the full YSP membership and is responsible for ensuring that projects and grant work are carried out in a timely and effective manner that is in alignment with the YSP’s self-identified core values. Work is highly collaborative with significant time spent supporting youth leaders, preparing adult partners to work with youth, and partnering with community entities to make positive changes towards the goal of ending youth homelessness in New Hampshire. The YSP Assistant Director will work closely with the YSP Director to coordinate organizational operations. Oversight and supervision of YSP Directors is provided by the YSP’s new Director of Sustainability.

There are no educational requirements for this position. Experience in the human services field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents or young adults. Fundamentally enjoys young people and is impressed with their resourcefulness and resilience. Believes that young people have important and valuable insight to contribute.
  • Ability to work closely with the other YSP CoDirector to divide up tasks, share responsibilities, and approach this work in a collaborative manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Willing and able to utilize multiple approaches and work one-on-one with youth to help them understand complex information.
  • Preferred familiarity with youth housing and homelessness service systems, specifically HUD’s Continuum of Care structure.
  • Experience compiling and presenting information in a clear visual, written, and verbal format. Willingness to adapt to a wide range of communication styles.
  • Willingness to advocate for YSP needs and values, and have potentially difficult conversations with YSP partners, CoCs, and youth/homeless serving agencies.
  • Ability to effectively use Facebook, email, Zoom, Google calendar, and Google Drive.
  • Belief in the YSP Core Values, cultural humility, and commitment to equity.
  • Relationship building & collaboration skills: Track record of developing and maintaining trusting relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and youth. Ability to meet people where they are, find common ground, and inspire collective action.
  • Strong self-advocacy and problem solving skills. Ability to work independently and teach oneself new skills and/or reach out to others for support in learning new skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate obstacles, support and develop leaders, and self-motivate and direct while working remotely.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred prior experience managing a program, including managing budgets, developing group norms and policies, and supervision of staff.
  • Preferred familiarity with youth housing and homelessness service systems, specifically, HUD’s Continuum of Care structure.
