Job Description
The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia seeks an Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions & Recruiting to join the McIntire Graduate Marketing & Admissions team based in Charlottesville, VA. The Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions & Recruiting is responsible for effectively recruiting, evaluating, and yielding students to the McIntire Pre-Experience Programs, which currently include the M.S. in Accounting, M.S. in Commerce, and M.S. in Global Commerce, as well as certificate programs. They serve as a member of the Admissions Committee and evaluate applications, conduct interviews, recommend admissions decisions, and provide insight and guidance on selection and yield. They also manage a student ambassador program and are responsible for recruitment, training, and program management.


What you will do:


Recruitment:


  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support diversity admissions and school-wide diversity efforts
  • Develop and implement recruitment event promotion plan and timeline, including pre and post event messages to optimize event attendance and participation and encourage application creation and/or submission
  • Identify and recommend new opportunities for recruiting and pipeline development including referral partnerships and affiliation with relevant professional associations
  • Execute specific programs/initiatives/events to enhance the recruitment and yield of candidates from diverse backgrounds, including by not limited to women, underrepresented minorities, veterans, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual events and engagement opportunities; develop event descriptions and ensures accurate and timely posting to Slate, CommCal, and the McIntire website


Evaluation:


  • Conduct evaluative interviews and provide insight and decision recommendations for Admissions Committee review
  • Review application materials (academic credentials, work experience, leadership, and other criteria) and provide objective and unbiassed assessment of qualifications


Student Ambassador Program Management:


  • Facilitate broader student engagement during the admissions cycle through coordination and development of events and initiatives taking place during academic breaks and organized travel opportunities
  • Select and train ambassadors to assist with recruiting events, class visits, online chats, and other recruitment and yield activities
  • Develop and manage program structure and experience for student ambassadors
  • Lead efforts to connect admitted students with current students following admission; will include in person and virtual opportunities


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Flexibility for some weekend and evening work as well as the ability to travel throughout the U.S.
  • Proficiency with systems and technology solutions, including mastery of MS Office with active and regular use of spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software
  • Excellent written, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, develop relationships with, and influence
  • Collaborative work-style and strong team orientation to working with internal and external stakeholders to include prospective students, current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and vendors
  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years of experience within a university (experience with admissions, career management, or student and/or academic services) or corporate setting (experience with marketing or sales) OR 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of and experience with Technolutions Slate
  • Previous experience in graduate management education admissions, recruitment, advising, and/or career development


Anticipated hiring range: $45,000 - $56,000


The position is eligible for participation in UVA Flex Work as outlined in the University Workplace Flexibility Policy.
