Job Description

Hotel Engine is a Denver-based travel tech company on a mission to radically simplify trip management for businesses. We're not a cumbersome travel management company, nor an online price aggregator. We're a powerful network that brings hotels and businesses together. Our members save time, money and effort in managing their lodging programs, and our partners get access to loyal, high-value business travelers. It's a true win-win. Following a 2021 series B funding round at a $1.3 billion valuation, we achieved remarkable growth in 2022. We expect 2023 to be our best year yet.

Across our organization, we're powered by exceptional talent. From our large Engineering and Product teams to Sales, Supplier Relations, Member Support, Data, Marketing and Operations, our team is forward-thinking, data-driven and customer-obsessed. We're also a lot of fun — one of the many reasons we were named a Best Place to Work by Built In Colorado for the past four consecutive years.

We value our individuality, and we also understand that together, we thrive. Most importantly, we know we're not for everyone! Complacency doesn't live here. We're focused on finding the right people who are energized by our culture and bring diverse experiences and backgrounds that will help us unlock our full potential. About the Role:

We are searching for a highly motivated individual to join our Accounting team as Assistant Controller and help us scale to the next level while promoting a team-oriented and highly collaborative culture! Reporting to the Controller, this position will have high visibility and interaction with various departments throughout the company. We are fast-paced, high-growth startup, which means we build processes, solve problems and manage competing high priorities daily.

In this role, you'll be the right-hand person to our Controller/Head of Accounting. You'll have a massive impact on Hotel Engine by upleveling our accounting processes, streamlining the close process, implementing new systems and tools for efficiencies, and mentoring a high performing team through a period of rapid growth! The successful candidate will be comfortable providing guidance to the Accounting team, and being hands-on with detailed accounting activities, such as preparing journal entries, preparing account reconciliations, and critically evaluating financial data.

Requirements and responsibilities:

  • Foster a collaborative and performance-driven culture, providing feedback to support, develop, and maintain a high performing team.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business and establish strong cross-functional relationships, using those insights to identify, design, and execute value-added process improvements for the Accounting department.
  • Assist with tax strategy and filings, including state, federal, and local reporting.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations in a fast-paced environment, including AP, AR, Equity, GL, Treasury, and Payroll activities.
  • Assist with oversight of the company's credit and collections policies, collaborating with AR and Product teams to drive efficiencies in cash collection.
  • Coordinate the primary activities of a Big Four audit, ensuring accurate and timely supporting documentation is provided to the audit team.
  • Prepare and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, account reconciliations, and journal entries; and establish rigor around the monthly close process.
  • Perform complex analysis independently and be comfortable as an individual contributor during the preparation of any close activities.
  • Continuously and proactively seek out areas to make an impact within Accounting and across the Hotel Engine.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, required; CPA license strongly preferred
  • Heavy Excel, NetSuite, and system implementation experience, required
  • The base salary range for this role is $155,000-$185,000. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise and may vary from the amount above.
  • Strong experience in high-growth, start-up environments required
  • Experience with IPO readiness activities, or public company reporting, strongly preferred
  • Experience representing Accounting directly with Big Four audit teams
  • Self-directed worker with the ability to resolve issues independently with minimal supervision, but also asks appropriate questions as needed Cash compensation:
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years in accounting management position, required
