Job Description

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for various oil and gas and corporate accounting and financial reporting tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Company’s use of financial reporting systems and organizational financial literacy
  • Collaborate with field operations on accruals and LOE-related accounting matters
  • Contribute to the analysis and drafting of technical accounting matters
  • Assist with monthly and annual 1042 Federal withholding requirements
  • Manage escheatment process to multiple states
  • Prepare interest accruals, cash reconciliation entries, and hedging entries, and maintain certain reconciliations
  • Ad hoc projects and duties as directed by the VP & Controller
  • Fulfill responsibilities assigned to the Company to meet compliance standards as it relates to external audits and reporting requirements
  • Complete monthly/quarterly/annual reconciliations to support the Company’s pass-through tax reporting on time
  • Support monthly reporting for management, including cash flows, LOE, and G&A analysis
  • Work with VP & Controller, Accounting Managers, and IT to understand and coordinate accounting system upgrades/enhancements
  • Coordinate LOE/DOE and G&A accruals and prepare related analyses for monthly financial reporting

Supervisor Duties


  • Growth potential to also manage other Accounting Managers as familiarity with the Company grows.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting

Specialized knowledge

  • Experience with technical accounting research
  • GAAP financial reporting
  • Successfully held a Supervisory or Manager role in the past supervising one or more team members.
  • Effective communication and writing skills
  • Strong understanding of GAAP

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong data mining and analytical skillset
  • The ability to manage time and meet deadlines is critical

Professional Certification

  • CPA

Industry Experience

Minimum of 3 years in Public Accounting; 4 years preferred, with exposure to oil and gas clients

Oil and Gas industry experience either in Public Accounting or in an Industry role following public accounting experience.

Working conditions

  • Work location: Office environment, partial work-from-home flexibility, occasional field visits
  • Default work schedule: Monday-Thursday 7:30 am-5:30 pm & Friday 7:30-11:30
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Compensation Range:
    • $135,000 -$155,000
    • Eligible for an annual bonus
