Job Duties
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking a qualified professional to fill the Assistant Commissioner for Community Behavioral Health position. The Assistant Commissioner will lead and support the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of current systems, this includes: ensuring major system transformation efforts including STEP VA, behavioral health redesign, and other key initiatives and activities in furtherance of DBHDS’ Community Behavioral Health Division goals, and overall agency goals. This position will also provide leadership and support on key cross-division, inter-office initiatives including data & evaluation team and workforce/provider development; works collaboratively with office directors and staff of DBHDS Community Behavioral Health Division and other divisions or offices to support division and agency goals; will provide innovative solutions to existing and newly identified systemic concerns through the development of provider capacity, education and technical expertise and will assist the Chief Deputy Commissioner in division administrative and financial operations and represents the Chief Deputy Commissioner when they are not available.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong leadership and management skills including demonstrated ability to inspire shared vision, cultivate and support staff, and foster teamwork. Thorough knowledge of and experience with the public and private behavioral health service delivery system in Virginia. Knowledge about gaps in the system and opportunities to develop a comprehensive system of care. Knowledge of and experience with best practices in systems transformation. Direct experience with individuals and families with behavioral health needs through direct service provision of supervision of direct service providers in a community agency or other practice setting. Ability to foster and promote collaboration on shared goals across diverse groups of leaders and teams, as well as the ability to be a self-starter and engage in strategic, critical and innovative thinking and problem solving. Must also embody the spirit and characteristics of transformational leadership, be an effective communicator both verbally and in writing. Experience with public speaking with groups ranging in size from 25 to 100. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups (agencies, consumers, legislators, local providers, etc.). Ability to plan, manage and coordinate multiple diverse projects and the ability to motivate, lead and supervise diverse staff.
