Job Description

Alabama State University, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, invites applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Athletic Director for the Student-Athlete Experience. The selected applicant will serve as a member of the Department of Athletics Student-Athlete Support Service Office which is committed to fostering the standard academic excellence for the University's NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program, which consists of 18 sports and 400 student-athletes. This position reports to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for the Student-Athlete Experience/ SWA Implement NCAA, Southwestern Athletic Conference, and Alabama State University regulations.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and recommend tutoring for students
  • Participate in on-campus recruiting activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Serve as the primary athletic academics contact, and as the academic advisor for student-athletes for various teams
  • Assist with the evaluation and certification of student-athletes NCAA initial, continuing, and transfer eligibility
  • Consult with coaches on student-athlete progress
  • Coordinate Academic Practice and assist with schedule development
  • Assist with managing the day-to-day operations
  • Assist with programs that are offered by the department
  • Counsel student-athletes on academic matters and monitor their academic progress

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in student personnel, counseling, education, or sports administration; possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; be proficient with computer applications, general office software, and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations; have the ability to motivate student-athletes and work effectively with coaches, faculty, and administrators; a commitment to excellence, and sensitivity to cultural differences, and be available to work evenings and weekends are required.

Desired Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Sports Administration or related field and/or five+ years of experience in athletics or comparable work in a sports-related field, experience in academic advising, athletic eligibility, study skills, and time management within an intercollegiate athletic setting.
