SPECIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of five years of coaching, teaching, and/ or administrative experience
  • Up-to-Date FBI, PATCH, and Child Abuse Clearances prior to start date
  • Bachelor's degree and experience in high school or college athletic setting required
  • Proven track record overseeing a mission-aligned, department level strategic plan
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
  • Supervise the Athletic Training and VJM Coaching Staff
  • Cultivate a Mission-centered vision for Athletics that contributes to the physical, personal, social, and spiritual growth of each VJM student-athlete
o Assure Assistant Athletic Director, Athletic Trainer, and VJM
Coaching Staff are following state and local mandated security
background checks according to VJM policy
o Mentor Assistant Athletic Director, Athletic Trainer, and VJM
Coaching Staff before, during, and post-season
o Oversee the evaluation and professional development of Assistant Athletic Director, Athletic Trainer, and VJM Coaching Staff
o In collaboration with the Athletic Trainer, assure all student-athletes are medically compliant to participate in sporting practices and/or competitions under PIAA guidelines, and have been released by parent/guardian to participate in school sponsored sports.
o Oversee the recruiting and hiring of open coaching positions
  • Develop an Athletic Department budget within the parameters given by the Director of Finance after consultation with the Assistant Athletic Director, the Athletic Trainer, and VJM Head Coaches
o Collaborate with the Director of Finance, Director of Development, and other colleagues to promote financial support of VJM Athletics
  • Represent VJM at all AACA League, District One, and State level meetings
  • Comply with all PIAA, District One, and League by-laws and regulations
o Responsible for successful orientation and compliance of athletic trainer, coaching staff, athletes, and spectators regarding league, district, and state level policies and procedures
o Conduct seasonal coaching staff/player/parent meetings to update and inform all parties on rules and regulations as needed
  • Enforce the Athletics Handbook which is consistent with the Mission of VJM
o Mediate all challenges that may arise within the Athletic Department in conjunction with the Principal and Dean of Students
o Respond to all Administration, Faculty, Athletic Trainer, Coaching Staff, student-athletes and parent concerns according to established protocol in a reasonable time frame
  • Coordinate and support the VJM Athletics Department to ensure successful
o Scheduling and confirmation of all competitions, transportation, and officials/managers for home competitions
o Seasonal athlete registration, payment, and eligibility requirements
o Securing and/or renewing of outside rentals for required sponsored sports (Golf, Rowing, Swimming & Diving, and Tennis)
o Ordering of varsity certificates, special awards, and championship banners
o Facilitating summer athletic camp registration, payment, and waivers
  • Collaborate in marketing athletic events, game highlights, athlete milestones, etc.
  • Coordinate and conduct NCAA signing day events
o Communicate athletic events with the faculty and staff of VJM and all other required parties
  • Facilitate external rentals of the gymnasium and outdoor sports fields
  • Facilitate student transfers in collaboration with the Admissions Office and in accordance to the PIAA by-laws
  • Approve and maintain all team rosters
  • In conjunction with the Athletic Trainer, Dean of Students, and Administrative Assistant, compile student-athlete payment, uniform, and/or equipment obligations
  • Oversee the scheduling of the gymnasium and outdoor sport fields
  • Determine senior athlete awards and recognition, in conjunction with Principal and Dean of Students
