Overview
The Orange County Regional History Center is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Archivist (Museum Registrar). The History Center is a national multi-award-winning, AAM accredited, and Smithsonian affiliated institution centered around its mission: to serve as the gateway for community engagement, education, and inspiration by preserving and sharing Central Florida’s continually unfolding story.
This position is responsible for the daily management and care of the museum’s archival collection including storage, preservation, exhibition, and research, the acquisition, accession, and de-accession of all archival items, and assists other members of the History Center’s staff in developing exhibits and other research related tasks. Work is performed under the supervision of the Curator of Collections.

Representative Duties
- Maintains records of and prioritizes processing backlog.
- Maintain and improve archives directory in Proficio database including the user interface.
- Preserve and monitor archival collections through environmental controls and appropriate housing. Manage the relocation of archival collections storage onsite and offsite as needed.
- Assists the Curator of Collections in managing the archival collection of the museum.
- Responds to all requests for archive research from public and private interests.
- Obtains, develops, organizes, and catalogs new collections of individual archives to enhance and improve existing inventories.
- Identifies, researches, and prepares archival collection items for exhibit displays.
- Performs specialized procedures in archive handling, management, storage, preservation, and exhibition.
- Coordinates, trains, and supervises volunteers that work in the collections area of the museum.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Process archival collections, including institutional archives and museum records, to professional standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of standards and best practices in archival theory and practice, preservation concepts, principles, and methodologies, digitization, local research tools, and finding aids.
- Knowledge of workflows for preservation digitization, ingest, metadata creation, and quality control of images.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in History, Museum Studies, Library Sciences, Anthropology or a closely related field and one year of experience working in a museum, archive, library, or closely related field which includes artifact and/or archive care and handling.
- Positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, flexibility and commitment to collaboration, customer service, strategy, and innovation.
Preferences
- Familiarity with Proficio and Preservica.
- Detail-oriented with ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- M.A., M.L.I.S., or certification in archives, library science, museum studies, or related field with three years formal training or experience in archives management and preservation or commensurate experience.
- Experience in conservation techniques and digitization, digital preservation practices and standards
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.

The above description and qualifications are not all-inclusive and represent a majority of the key responsibilities of this position. Other duties may be assigned as required to fulfill the directives of the strategic plan or the museum. Work environment is a combination of office setting with some driving between the office to the museum and off-site storage; must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Final Candidates must successfully pass a background screening and fingerprinting, must be able to live and work in the United States, and will be required to pass a drug test. Interview and relocation expenses are not offered.
Additional Information:
Hours Per Week: 40 Hours, exempt
Schedule: Generally, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday, evenings and weekends may be required.
Primary Work Location: Orange County Regional History Center, 65 E. Central Blvd., Orlando, FL 32801 with significant portions of time spent at the offsite facility located approximately 30 minutes from the museum.
