The Orange County Regional History Center is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Archivist (Museum Registrar). The History Center is a national multi-award-winning, AAM accredited, and Smithsonian affiliated institution centered around its mission: to serve as the gateway for community engagement, education, and inspiration by preserving and sharing Central Florida's continually unfolding story.
This position is responsible for the daily management and care of the museum's archival collection including st orage, preservation, exhibition, and research, the acquisition, accession, and de-accession of all archival items, and assists other members of the History Center's staff in developing exhibits and other research related tasks. Work is performed under the supervision of the Curator of Collections.
Reports to: Curator of Collections
Representative Duties
. Process archival collections, including institutional archives and museum records, to professional standards.
. Assists the Curator of Collections in managing the archival collection of the museum.
. Performs specialized procedures in archive handling, management, storage, preservation, and exhibition.
. Obtains, develops, organizes, and catalogs new collections of individual archives to enhance and improve existing inventories.
. Maintain and improve archives directory in Proficio database including the user interface.
. Preserve and monitor archival collections through en vironmental controls and appropriate housing. Manage the relocation of archival collections storage onsite and offsite as needed.
. Identifies, researches, and prepares archival collection items for exhibit displays.
. Maintains records of and prioritizes processing backlog.
. Responds to all requests for archive research from public and private interests.
. Coordinates, trains, and supervises volunteers that work in the collections area of the museum.
. Performs other related duties as assigned.
