About this Opportunity!
The Animal Health Bureau is responsible for the prevention, control and eradication of animal diseases; safeguarding the health and food production capacity of the State's livestock and poultry and preventing the transmission of animal diseases to man. The prevention and control of domestic animal diseases are achieved through five major areas of activity: Import/Export, Disease Control, Livestock Crime Investigation, Alternative Livestock, and Field Operations.
The Import/Export Section supervises the livestock and animal import permit system as provided for in Montana Statutes. The Disease Control Program functions to protect the Montana livestock industry from disease loss by providing for the diagnosis, prevention, control, and eradication of animal diseases. Livestock Crime Investigation staff investigate alleged violations of the Montana State animal health laws and any other related regulations for possible penalty and/or criminal prosecution. The Alternative Livestock Program regulates alternative livestock ranches with elk, deer, and other cervidae for disease control and inspection for ownership, in cooperation with the Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Field operations include investigation of disease occurrence, import compliance and enforcement of Montana Codes and Administrative Rules. Recognition and training of veterinary practitioners to perform official work gives each program a necessary pool of professional service in field operations (Deputy State Veterinarians).
Position Overview:
This position is responsible for oversight of the animal health import permit program as well as administrative oversight of numerous animal health programs. As the manager of the animal health import office, this position performs a variety of duties including, but not limited to, supervising four import section positions and one animal disease traceability position in the Helena, oversight of the animal health import program, and oversight of multiple animal health programs.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Animal Import Permits: This position is responsible for the oversight of the animal health import permit program. This includes the development of internal policy on how import permits are issued, supervision of animal health import staff, and frequent contact with the public and veterinarians to ensure the proper execution of the program.
2. Disease Control Program Management : This position oversees all of these programs to ensure that the programs are run efficiently and effectively without compromise to the livestock industry of Montana.
3. Administrative Support: Provides administrative support to the department as needed, oversees public records drafts correspondence and facilitates records management.
4. Supervision: Supervises compliance and license permit staff within the bureau.

Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and at least five (5) years in a similar office environment with daily customer service, exceptional communication and computer operation and program skills.
- Previous experience in a supervisory, leadership or personnel management role.
- Experience creating formal documents in a variety of Microsoft programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree,
