Job Description
Overview:
Production hand held MIG welder with experience or training capable of performing a variety of welding functions. The individual should be familiar with and capable of using various types of welding equipment. A welder is also required to perform other miscellaneous tasks, as supervision deems necessary.
Responsibilities:
  • Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixtures
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fill holes
  • MIG Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions
  • Select torch, torch tip, filler ford and flux, according to work instructions/blueprint
  • Set up equipment and weld parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc welding equipment
  • Clean or de-greases parts
  • Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld and size of molten puddle
  • Read and interpret blueprint and work instructions to determine specific welding requirements
  • Perform all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding
  • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter
  • Bolt, clamp, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding
  • Connect cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, per blueprint. Make adjustment to produce to quality parts to specific dimensions
  • Be able to move parts in and move finished product out of welding area
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications
  • Tack assemblies together
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree (A.A.); 1 Year Certificate or equivalent or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must pass hands-on welding test.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • One hand carry-2 lbs. for 5 feet occasionally (gun)
  • Lift overhead-up to 20 lbs. rarely (components), 10 lbs. occasionally
  • Lift waist level-up to 50 lbs. occasionally (components), 25 lbs. frequent
  • Two hand carry-up to 30 lbs. for 5 feet, occasionally heavier items
  • Bend-frequently to reach areas during welding or grinding, •
  • Firm grasp-continuously (handling equipment); holding gun with dominant hand)
  • Lift to/from floor-up to 50 lbs. occasionally up to 25 lbs. frequent
  • Twist-rarely and Squat or kneel-occasionally
  • 10 hours shift - stand/walk-continuously (8-10 hours)
