POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Site Administrator, Ambulatory Services of MLK Community Healthcare, the Ambulatory Clinical Supervisor is responsible for successfully managing clinical operations of MLKCH outpatient clinic(s) and ambulatory services involving one or more specialty disciplines and/or clinic sites. The Ambulatory Clinical Supervisor will provide first-line operational supervision for assigned functional area of responsibility (e.g., primary care department). Ensures that healthcare staff delivering ambulatory care/patient services provide high quality, accessible, cost effective care and patient - focused services to members that comply with MLK Community Healthcare standards as well as with local, state and federal requirements. Within assigned area: implements, supervises/monitors and maintains clinical practice and quality management standards, and staff competencies/development. This position reports to the Site Administrator with a dotted line to the Director of Nursing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in resolution of administrative and operational issues including the maintenance of clinic property, computer systems and installed software applications.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
- Assists leadership develop clinic strategic plans and objectives based upon identified needs of patients.
- Conducts medication inventory on a consistent basis; properly addresses expiring medication, ordering and stocking.
- Maintain the strictest confidentiality.
- Participate in management or leadership meetings as directed or requested.
- Resolves problems in administrative and clinical areas
- Assists Site Administrator in developing and maintaining Unit specific compentencies for all department staff
- Supervises and maintains patient care and quality service standards to meet members' and internal clients' expectations.
- Supervises use and maintenance of equipment, supplies and medications.
- Ensures all clinic logs are accurate and timely. Clinic logs include: portable oxygen cylinder PSI levels, automated external defibrillator (AED), medication temperature logs, expired medication, room temperature, and point of care equipment including controls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- In assigned area/function, supervises the operations and delivery of patient care services.
- Provides operational accountability for and coordination of nursing services, including appropriate skill mix and delegation of roles and responsibilities for licensed and unlicensed personnel.
- Recommends and evaluates processes to improve systems and patient care results across the continuum of care.
- Ensures safety in the clinic by inspecting the emergency kit(s) and assisting with medical emergencies. Checks for expired medications and supplies in the kits. Orders replacement supplies in a timely manner. Provides training and education on medical emergencies and equipment.
- Collaborates with multi-disciplinary departments to resolve patient care issues & meet access demands in support of the day-to-day operations of the department.
- Measures, tracks, and improves internal and external customer satisfaction.
- Evaluate employee performance and recommend merit increases, promotions and disciplinary actions.
- Establishes and maintains effective, collaborative relationships with physicians and other departments.
- Serve as a liaison between site and external agencies.
- Supervises and monitors the implementation of clinical care polices and procedures which support the goals of the department and organization.
- Acts as patient advocate resolving patient care issues.
- Procures supplies and other materials needed for the medical group site.
- Ensures staff provide highest quality of care which complies with the California Board of Vocational Nursing, TJC, federal/state/local requirements.
- Ensure that staff is trained and operates in compliance with all government and other regulatory agencies.
- Provides supervision of clinical staff, planning and adjust staffing as needed on a daily basis to maintain safe patient care and efficient operations across the organization.
- Assists in managing and resolving human resource, labor relations, employee and department safety, and risk management issues.
Education
- Licensed Vocational Nurse currently licensed in California.
- Current Basic Life Support for Providers, by American Heart Association (AHA)
- High School graduate or equivalent degree (GED) required.
Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or management experience in a health care setting required
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience within the last 5 years required, ambulatory outpatient clinic experience preferred.
- Demonstrates ability to supervise and direct administrative personnel.
- Has excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Highly organized and ability to work independently.
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, electronic medical records and ability to learn new applications easily.
