Job Description
Job Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for supervising the efficient operation of a sales or marketing division through the continuous identification and development of detailed departmental marketing programs. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.
Work Location
100 Montana St.
Work Schedule
9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday. Schedules will vary with shifts being subject to change to accommodate events, weekends, and holiday shift work schedules as dictated by business needs. Some major events will be mandatory.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
  • Researches, reviews, recommends, and implements contractual and vendor services for assigned facilities.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and operation of effective customer service programs in all functional areas of assigned facilities.
  • Interviews, selects, supervises, develops, evaluates, counsels, and if necessary, disciplines personnel according to established COSA policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Contributes to the development and monitoring of the annual budget and strategic plans for the department, including cost control measures and planning of future improvements.
  • Management for facilities include communicating by various methods to retain working relationships, provide direction, staff supervision using office equipment and coordination of its activities.
  • Ensures facility compliance with all applicable policies, laws, codes, regulations, ordinances, and directives.
  • Manages the operations of the building maintenance, housekeeping, security, information technology, booking and event services, and other services of assigned facilities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of responsible operational or management experience with major convention or multi-purpose facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing large groups of employees.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to identify and create a database for local, regional and national media entities.
  • Experience with individual event and annual media buying, including promotional recaps for clients to include clients and venue sponsors.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of principles of budget development and administration.
  • Ability to estimate, plan, track, and control costs.
  • Ability to properly align and work with a team of accounting, property management, leasing and construction personnel.
  • Knowledge of fire safety codes, regulations and policies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of contract administration and negotiation techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and implement energy efficient systems.
  • Knowledge of public relations and marketing methods, techniques and practices.
  • Skill in making effective presentations to City Manager and City Council.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and personnel management.
  • Skill in utilizing office equipment and associated software programs.
  • Ability to develop a management plan in order to reach long range goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of facility management procedures, methods and techniques.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of construction managers, building operations personnel and custodial staff.
  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position with or without accommodations.
  • Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment.
  • Ability to promote and build a team atmosphere, motivating team members.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
