Job Description
Job Title: After School Program Teacher
Department: Children’s Program
Reports To: The Director of Children’s Program and Family Engagement
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Part Time

Summary
The role of the After School Program Teacher in the shelter environment is to assess, monitor, and enhance the educational, emotional, and developmental functioning of the children enrolled in the After School Program. This is done through providing quality instruction during afternoon hours. The After School Program Teacher will work as a team with the Director of Early Learning and Afterschool Programming, Children’s Program Coordinator, Interns, Community Partners and volunteers to assess and meet the educational needs of the children while fostering parental engagement. As the children’s most personal and direct staff contact, the After School Program Teacher interacts with clients in a way that fosters health, mutual respect, clear communication and positive self-regard.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position does not have Supervisory Responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assess each child related to the following areas: motor development, socialization.
  • Cooperate with community agency partners in order to best serve the needs of the children of the Center.
  • Record and maintain data reflective of children’s progression.
  • Provides quality instruction and tutoring for children ages 5-17 for the After School Program.
  • Coordinates and actively participates in “Out of School Time” events and community engagement opportunities which includes the After School Program and may include nights and weekends.
  • Maintains current Florida Department of Education Teaching Certificate for grades K-12; minimum K-5.
  • Maintains at a minimum of 10 clock hours of annual training (July through June)
  • Drive and/or accompany the Children’s Program Coordinator for offsite events.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to manage crisis situations
  • Florida Certified Teacher (K-5; K-12) with Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Human Development, Early Childhood Education, Secondary Education, Child Psychology or related field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with guests, colleagues and volunteers
  • Excellent customer service skills
Physical/Mental Demands & Working Conditions
  • Ability to travel
  • Physically able to work in a fast paced multitasked environment
  • Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening
  • Acceptable annual Motor Vehicle Record check
  • Work various shifts as required to ensure that services are adequately administered and accessible to clients
  • Works in typical office setting
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Personal car and valid Florida driver’s license
