Job Description

The USC Price Office of Admissions is seeking an innovative and driven Admission Counselor I to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to join an energetic and collaborative team passionate about supporting students throughout the admission process and places great importance on staff member support and professional development. The Admission Counselor will work closely with prospective graduate students and assist with the admission process by successfully recruiting, processing, and reviewing applications and enrolling students. The position will also provide additional support as needed with the opportunity to assist with undergraduate recruitment and admission initiatives, as well as become familiar with scholarship and funding processes. The ideal candidate is motivated, creative, passionate, and highly detail oriented with the ability to work well in a team setting, as well as independently. Applicants passionate about supporting prospective and incoming students with strong presentation, customer service, and organizational skills are highly encouraged to apply!

Position summary:

  • Support Assistant Director of Scholarships with matters pertaining to merit scholarships including but not limited to scholarship funding requests, communications and outreach, and reporting and assessment efforts
  • Assist the Associate Director of Admissions with USC Price undergraduate recruitment activities and processes undergraduate changes of majors.
  • Assist with the advisement of students on budgeting, applying, maintaining eligibility, enrollment and other financial aid questions and campus resources.
  • Work closely with the department chairs in making admission decisions for graduate programs in accordance with admission guidelines.
  • Build relationships and assists all applicants throughout all phases of the enrollment cycle (inquiry through enrollment).
  • Analyze and evaluate documents submitted with applications for admission (i.e., transcripts, standardized test scores, references, essays) of program applicants.
  • Communicate in person, by telephone and in writing with domestic and international applicants about status of admission applications.
  • Counsel applicants on admission policies and procedures. Evaluates and offers solutions to applicant problems and requests regarding admission.
  • Organize, plan, and execute programs/events designed to support recruitment efforts.

Job Qualifications and Experience:

  • Analytical and able to make sound judgments/decisions.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills; attention to detail; efficient, resourceful, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preferred Job Qualifications and Experience:
  • General knowledge of the structure of undergraduate and graduate admissions processes and policies.
  • Ability to thrive in an all-hands-on-deck atmosphere, ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent organization and prioritization, customer service, oral/written communication, interpersonal, public relations, and presentation skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with USC admission and enrollment policies but not required.
  • Experience using Microsoft 365 platform
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and/or institutional financial aid policies and practices desired but not required.
  • Experience using USC Student Information Systems (SIS)
  • Experience using customer relationship management platforms such as Salesforce, Pardot, and Slate
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Experience: 0 - 2 years experience

Minimum Field of Expertise: Counseling skills and/or academic advisement experience

Compensation: The hourly rate range for this position is $27.00 - $30.58. Additional Information:

The Admission Counselor I position is a full-time, hybrid position, with the expectation of 3 days of weekly onsite work at USC’s University Park Campus located in Los Angeles, California. This role is not eligible for fully remote work.
