Job Description
Job Responsibilities


Who We Are


Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center is part of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center/OAMHC provides mental health services to individuals in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg and Holly Hill Counties.


Under the direct supervision of the Business Manager. Performs and assist with a wide range of OAMHC and its satellite offices advanced administrative duties to include, clerical, reporting, and Front Desk coverage. Able to utilize DMH/OAMHC computer-based programs to complete assigned tasks (i.e. CIS, EMR, ETC.) Able to function in the full capacity of the OAMHC Administrative Pool. Able to function and ensure other related OAMHC administrative responsibilities are smoothly operable.


  • Complete indigent drug applications on behalf of patients. Secure necessary documentation and forward to drug company. Prepare labels for Depakote for doctor to place dispensing directions on for patients. Per doctors’ approval, distribute medicine to patients.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Assist Mental Health Center patients who might be eligible for entitlements. Complete and forward information to various agencies. Coordinate paperwork and appointments from agencies in support of applications. Advocate on behalf of patients through correspondence, phone calls and visits when disputes, confusion, misunderstanding or questions develop concerning applications and after receipt of benefits.
  • Submit prior authorizations for medication to Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, etc. for approval. Notify counselor of disposition.
  • Review the monthly report showing OAMHC patients (new and re-admissions) and provide names and other pertinent information to the billing department for back billing. Notify billing supervisor of recently entitled patients.


Minimum And Additional Requirements


A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.


Preferred Qualifications


Knowledge of the principles, policies and practices of clerical duties. Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public. Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.


Must be comfortable and effective working in a professional office environment. Must understand and address the needs of external and internal customers of the Center. Must have a positive attitude and treat all consumers, staff, supervisors, and surrounding community with dignity and respect at all times. Must posses a current, valid state motor vehicle operator license.
