Job Description
Overview

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world’s leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world’s deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality.

At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. These values are grounded in and expressed through the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. Our mission is directly tied to the humanity, dignity and inherent value of each employee, patient, community member and supporter. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems. Fred Hutch is in pursuit of becoming an anti-racist organization. We are committed to ensuring that all candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, anti-racism and inclusion.

The Fred Hutch Administrative Fellowship Program offers early careerists an opportunity to develop their leadership style and to use their skills and competencies at one of the top cancer programs in the nation, and the top ranked cancer hospital in the WWAMIO region. The fellow will be placed in Service Line Management, which is within the strategy and business development arm of the institution, giving the fellow exposure across the care continuum and experience with executive and clinical leadership. Project-based in nature, the fellowship enables the fellow and the designated Service Line Manager preceptor to determine the appropriate project portfolio that ensures a learning environment and the ability to translate academic theory into practice. The program is two years in length and aims to identify and grow promising candidates for future leadership positions.

Candidate applications will need to include a resume, personal statement or cover letter, 3 letters of recommendation (at least one academic and one professional), and a diversity statement (instructions below).

Responsibilities

The fellowship offers a project-based experience with projects geared towards the fellow's interests and the needs of the enterprise. This structure aims to provide a well-rounded understanding of the organization and disease-specific programs. Service line exposure may include Blood and Marrow Transplant, Breast, Cellular Immunotherapy, Endocrine, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Gynecologic, Head and Neck, Immunotherapy, Heme/Heme Malignancies, High-Risk Prevention, Imaging, Melanoma/Skin, Neurologic, Phase I Clinical Trials, Procedure Suite, Renal, Sarcoma, Screening, Supportive Care, and Thoracic Programs. There may be opportunities to focus more time within certain groups to foster deeper stakeholder relationship-building and service line expertise.

As the Service Line Manager role spans organizations and departments, the fellowship offers an opportunity to work on initiatives that are cross-institutional and cross-departmental in nature that focus on the core processes of Service Line Management: strategic planning, long-term capacity planning, new service and business development, and program-level data analytics and reporting. Through their partnership with the Service Line Manager preceptor along with other Service Line Managers and stakeholders, the fellow is exposed to different managerial and leadership styles, helping to promote development and understanding of their own personal style.
